I had a horrible experience at Best Buy yesterday. And all because of a stupid worker & the ad in the paper that used old cover art for the muppet show.I just sent an email at best buy.com here is what I wrote:

Yesterday (August 9th) I went to buy a copy of The Muppet Show Season 1 at my local best buy along with the new movie Muppets Wizard of OZ. And when I went to the register it rang up for $35.99. And I told the women at the register that this was its first week of release and it was on sale for $29.99. She did not believe me. Even after I pulled out my add showing her the price she did not believe me. She was extremely rude. She said that because the picture in the add just said season one on the bottom and the copy I had said special edititon that mine was more expensive. I told her there is no regular edition and that they all have special edition on them. She lied to my face several times telling me there was a regular edition and that she saw it and it had sold out already.I told her I have looked it up and that there was only 1 type of box set that came out and they all had special edition. She just kept lieing and lieing to me and was no help at all. I told her that is was false advertising and if she didn't have this 'regular edition' to prove it to me that one existed than she had to give me the price in the ad. She was snarky and said no and did NOTHING to help me. Her name was Abby and I was at the best buy in ***** ***** store #***. It took about and hour for me to talk to a manager/main media guy. He did however help me. He looked in the computer and said that there was only 1 edition that existed and that was the special edition that they got in. He knew I was correct and I got it for $29.99. But the whole thing ruined my afternoon and my experience at best buy. I received no apology from the women or anything. That is the least they could have given me after embarressing me and taking an hour to help me. Especially since she lied to my face several times and was no help at all. I am a reward zone member and expect to be treated with respect and that women gave me none. I buy from Best Buy all the time but yesterday you all came very close to losing me as a customer. I even told that to Abby but she didn't care. This was the worst service I have ever had in my entire life.

After all that, and now finding out that other copies at other stores have fuzzy copies I wish I didn't buy it there. Wish I had known, I just assumed because all the copies there were not fuzzy everywhere else was the same.:frowning:

Josh,

I'm sorry about your bad experience with Best Buy. I encountered a similar nasty person and ruined my lunch trying to deal with a hobby that is supposed to be fun!

DVD returns, price matching... should take minimal time and should *not* involve frustration on the part of the customer. I must say that I've bought more than a few DVDs at Fry's since I received such poor service. BTW, I'm a reward member too!

Oh yes, the clerk even told me the store didn't have to accept my return! I bought the DVD the previous day and had my receipt. Is BB becoming CC?

Well, I don't buy any TV SHOWS ON DVD, or anything else, for that matter, at Best Buy anymore. Since I frequent this site, it should surprise no one that I, too, frequently purchase many TV SHOWS ON DVD and lots of other stuff. And I now take my business elsewhere after leaving that store unhappy one too many times.

By the way, the Meijer chain has The Muppets Season One for 28 bucks this week.

This set is sweet. The felt cover is a very nice touch.

Truth to tell, I have had problems with Best Buy as well concerning TV DVD's as well. Most of them having to do with incorrigible employees. I've usually ended up talking to one of their managers or contacting their district manager related to the problem.

What they don't like, more than anything, is a customer calling for their General Manager of their store.

Josh, not to make things worse but BB was supposed to give you Muppet Show Season one and Wizard of Oz for $35.99 together.

Unfortunately I don't have a Meijer anywhere near me so Best Buy was the best buy for me.:frowning:

Oh don't worry I got that sale too. That is ANOTHER reason why the women didn't want to give me the S1 set for $29.99. She knew I was already saving $10 by buying both and she just wanted to screw me over. When I first tried explaining to her that the S1 set should be $29.99 she tried to confuse me and said yes but your already getting the movie for $5.99.She just kept repeating that over and over until I got it through her head that I already knew that. THEN she started with the lies about seeing a regular edition. She tried to get off with a technicality just because the stupid ad used old cover art.It is not my fault that I was getting a great deal by buying both things there. By the end of it I paid $25 for the set and $5 for the movie because I also had a $5 best buy coupon.

BTW for those of you that got the fuzzy cover, is it JUST the front cover that is fuzzy? Nothing on the inside? I saw it yesterday at target and didn't think it was that big a deal. I thought the WHOLE box was going to be fuzzy. It disappointed me.

Haven't received an email back yet but if/when I do I'll let you know what they say.:star:

Josh,

Sorry for your experience.

BUT, the thing you have to remember, you, me, everyone here, we all know more about DVD than anyone working at a retail checkout counter. Wal Mart, Circuit City, Best Buy, it doesn't matter.

If you had a problem, you should have just said "That's the wrong price. Here, let me go over to the customer service window if you can't handle it."

It may be frustrating to deal with them, but don't let it bother you too much. They are dealing with checking out everything from DVDs to CDs to refrigerators, washing machines, and TVs. They aren't DVD specialists. They just scan the stuff and make change.

I've had some great check out people (recently got into a discussion of different TV shows with a clerk) and others who don't even stop their discussions with a co-worker when they scan your stuff. I've had some obnoxious people that wouldn't sell me big ticket items if I didn't take an extended warranty, and I've had other, very helpful people. It is all depending on who you are dealing with.

So, you got a bad clerk. Next time you go there, maybe she will be gone. But, it isn't Best Buys fault. It is probably difficult to hire anyone in your area.

I too have had problems at bB Or as I call it "Worst Buy".

Well, it's not like you're buying dvds from a man in a
trenchcoat in a dark alley!
"Psssttt. Hey, bud wanta buy some dvds?"

It's Worst Buy's job to make sure their customers are happy or at least have a smooth transaction.

I love my Muppet Show set too!

EXACTLY! I shouldn't have to pay for the women's rudeness and stupidity. Especially after I explained it to her several times.

I got a response to my email today:

Josh,

Thank you for contacting Best Buy about the *(city name)* store. I'm
Christi with Customer Care.

Well atleast I let them know about the situation. It really did ruin the rest of my day. I am always happy when I go in and buy dvds and it was just a total wet blanket and on this experience.

Just the front cover and spine are fuzzy. I think it's kinda cool.

Seems like lots of other posters don't care for BB. Unfortunately, I don't think it's a matter of running into the wrong employee. The Wall Street Journal published a story in the past couple of years in which company officials stated, rather bluntly, that they couldn't care less about you as a customer if you're visiting one of their stores and you're not looking to purchase several hundred dollars worth of electronics. That is their right as a merchant to have such policies, but luckily, no one can force us to shop there. ;)

DVD collecting is a great hobby, and one of the things I enjoy about it is the hunt -- finding what I want at the BEST price.

Thats a bunch on crap that all they did was respond with a 'Thanks for telling us'. I would of expected some reward zone points for the hassle.

Well, if they can hardly be trusted to buy a few dollars of DVDs from them, why would we buy several hundred dollars of stuff from them?

i dont understand what the origional complaint is.
you said muppet show and muppet oz rang up for a total of 35.99.

so what was wrong with that?

it was supposed to be that price.

buy both it's 35.99.
get them seperate and it's 29.99 + 15.99 = 45.99.

please clarify
