Hi all,

I have a Xbox with the dvd player kit but it will not play dvd that have been recorded, specifically DVD+R/RW. I checked on DVDplusRW.org compatibility website and the Xbox is listed as compatible. Why won't the recorded DVDs play?

Also, I've been looking at buying a seperate DVD player for under $100. Wally World has a Sony for $75 that lists all of the different CD and DVD formats on the box so would probably work for me. I've read better reviews about the Pioneer DV-578A or DV-588A but they are not on the compatibility list for DVD+R/RW. How reliable are these compatiblity lists? Would I be better off just to get the Sony? Please advise.

Thanks.

You are definetly better off getting one that states it will play the formatyou want it to.

Compatibility lists can be wrong.

There are Three different drives that XBOX consoles have. The RCA and Philips drives are limited in what they play while the Samsung plays most of the formats out there.

Look here. for photos to tell the difference.

The RCA Thompson drive is the worst one and the Samsung is the best.
