Discussion in 'Speakers' started by Chu Gai, Feb 18, 2005.
A series of articles can be found here.
Actually I don't find those articles particurlarly helpful. The article "Setting the Subwoofer / LFE Crossover for Best Performance" doesn't distinguish between 0.1 LFE bass and re-directed bass from small speakers, and thus the author further confuses the issues.
I think a proper discussion on the crossover issue should discuss the HPF and LPF filter slopes in most processors as well as the acoustic rolloff of the main speakers, so people understand the whys and wherefores of how to blend properly across the crossover boundary.
It is also necessary to discuss what aggregating all the re-directed bass plus LFE bass to a single sub means for the SPL output capability of that sub.
On the subject of THX, I tend to agree. I also agree that Large mains are desirable.
I wasn't that impressed with the articles, rather disjointed IMO. They don't do enough defining of terminolgy either, which makes things really confusing for newbies.
OK. We'll put Bruce down on the 'could've done better side'.
