Can anyone give me a link to the review on band of brothers or any comments on it? I am thinking of buying it, but it is about $70 for the season...

    Chris,
Use the search button on this forum under movies and dvd's. You should find a number of posts. Band of Brothers IMO is easily one of the best WWII films ever made. It's 10 episodes long but I just look at it as one long movie.

Yeah I bought it after Walmart lowered the price and do not regret the purchase. If you are into war movies at all this is a must have.

It is definitely worth the $70. As others have said, I think it is the best WWII film made. I watch this set more than anything else in my collection. Get the book too. They go great together. Reading the book first will help you with figuring out the characters easier. Re-read the book after watching the series and you'll see the descriptions come to life in your head even more.

I rented the first 5 episodes and my wife and I didn't like it at all. Every episode was almost identical. We found it slow to the point of being boring. I was expecting to rent just the first three episodes as a test drive and then buy it. Glad I didn't buy it.

I like just about every other WW2 movie out there too, including Private Ryan. To each his own.

It is the best movie/mini-series I have ever seen on TV.
It is the best WWII movie I have seen.
It is one of my favorite DVDs.

The one caveat is that it is long and you have to pay attention to the many "characters" you follow from training camp through the end of the war. I say "characters" because they are all real people.

It is amazing. By being ten episodes it gives you a chance to have a true appreciation for what soldiers go through. Buy it ASAP!

I also just want to add that the book is equally good. I'd read that before watching the DVD. It's a fairly quick and easy read.

Read below my review posted just before the DVD's came out:

    *********************************
This is a must have for any WWII buff and should be shown to anyone who has ever had any questions about the need for brave men who stand against evil. Technique wise, it resembles "Saving Private Ryan", lots of grain, hyper-realistic combat, gore. But I found it even more compelling than SPR, due to it's longer length, the anonymity of the characters which fades as the series progresses and most of all - the fact that every man and every scene were real. This is remarkably and emotionally demonstrated by the recaps of each episode given by the present day survivors of Easy Company. These old men, to whom we owe so much, share their memories of how they at 18/19/20 years of age were told they had to go save the world . . . and they did.

This is a story of the Company that saw more front line combat than any other unit in WWII and you are there for all 10 episodes, from training to Normandy, Market Garden, The Bulge, Bastogne, Liberation and Hitler's Eagle's Nest. I myself will purchase it tomorrow and it will instantly become one of my prized possessions. Highly Recommended.

However, in the past, hyper-realistic gore filled war movies that seem to depict a sort of moral ambiguity about some of the characters motives or actions (i.e. "tell it like it was") or that seem to shy away from stereotypical character development have been described as "War Porn". If you are of this opinion about these types of films, BOB is a series to stay away from.

If you enjoyed SPR, "Blackhawk Down" or "We Were Soldiers", BOB is as good or better and definitely worth adding to any collection. Watch, enjoy and then go down and make a donation to your local VFW or DAV hall. It's the least those "old guys" deserve.
    *****************************

Greatest quote from any war movie, bar none - "We're paratroopers, son. We're supposed to be surrounded"

Don't walk but RUN as fast as you can and get this wonderful series.

    "anonymity of the characters"

The characters for me where not anonymous but were instead REAL people who you could feel for during the series. You become connected to these great people through the series. I think this is why this series is so amazing - the characterization mainly, the realityof everything on screen, and the historical references. Out of ANY series this one by far is loved by everyone(minus Tom). Personally I don't know how one could like Saving Private Ryan and NOT like BOB but to each their own. In fact I have heard of people compare SPR with BOB but always state that BOB is miles ahead. Walmart is selling it for $63.[IMG]
