The only titles I own that I will ever rebuy in hd are
star wars,
LOTR,
Moulin Rouge,
Tombstone,
Black Hawk Down,
Matrix
and a few Tarantino films.

Any longer versions etc (such as Kingdom of Heaven) that don't exist on dvd will also be purchased.

I'm not particularly excited about HD because I won't/can't repurchase hundreds of movies at $30+ per title (ala LD).

But...if I were to become more interested it would be due to lesser-known titles that are getting done properly for the first time (The Apostle, The Paper, Rambling Rose, Mountains of the Moon, Rob Roy), not the typical launch fodder like Fantastic Four.

As far as more mainstream stuff goes, all Bond movies before Goldeneye need to be cleaned up and redone with more care.

That would be a huge draw for me, on any format.

It just might take the Blu-ray format before we finally see the classic Tex Avery and MGM cartoon films and other such animated properties that the studios are "hesitant" to release... If so, I have to say this will be a major push for me.

I'm just curious how thr anual release series not yet phgased out will be transitioned if at all... such as the Looney Tunes GC's and Walt Disney Treasure sets. Does anyone think these will see re-issue? Perhaps in more comprehensive packagings given the extra space for more content?

Any 10 of the following group of titles would get me to buy the next HD format assuming, of course, near-flawless 1080p transfers (and great extras wouldn't hurt):

1. The Original Star Wars Trilogy (obviously I'd prefer the pre-SEs but I'll settle for the SEs)
2. The Godfather Trilogy
3. The Shawshank Redemption
4. Toy Story 1&2
5. The Incredibles
6. The Good, The Bad & The Ugly
7. Once Upon a Time in the West
8. Vertigo
9. Psycho
10. 12 Monkeys
11. This is Spinal Tap
13. Batman Begins
14. Indiana Jones Trilogy
15. The Lord of the Rings EE Trilogy
16. Peter Jackson's King Kong
17. Seven Samurai
18. Fight Club
19. L.A. Confidential
20. Alien(s)
21. Before Sunrise/Sunset
22. Contact
23. Garden State
24. Lost in Translation
25. Matrix Trilogy

The Godfather Trilogy
The Adventures of Indiana Jones
The Back to the Future Trilogy
Batman Begins
Harry Potter: Years 1-4

Disney-Buena Vista can easliy motivate me to buy a Blu-Ray player by releasing the following titles which they distribute:

Kaze no Tani no Nausicaa
Tenkuu no Shirou Laputa
Porco Rosso
Heisei Tanuki Gassen Pompoko
Omoide Poro-poro
Tonari no Totoro
Umi ga Kikoeru
Majou no Takyuubin
Mononoke Hime
Sen to Chihiro no Kamigakushi
Howl no Ungoku Shirou

That's assuming, of course, no hanky-panky with video output resolutions, player deactivations, and what-have-you.

Got into CD in '88, DVD '98, that makes me a go for HD on disc in '08. Ugh!
My list would be the all titles I passed on in '05 waiting for HD discs, digital animation, & classics in widescreen. (Yes, I look forward to full screen HD as well)

Announced titles that get me excited have to be Ice Age, Dinosaur, Terminator movies, Matrix, Troy, We were Soilders, Team America World Police, and Batman Begins. Overall Blu-Ray already has plenty for great titles and there are plenty more to come. Id really like to know what the other 15 Fox titles are. Hopefully that will contain some treats as well. There will plenty of greats to try out on my Playstation 3.

How many HD editions of "Army of Darkness" do you think we'll get in the first couple of years? :D

It's not a movie that will make me "cave" but lower prices on DLP or LCD RPTV's and BD players. If prices on new 50" displays dip to sub-$1500 and BD players get below $500, then I'm in.

Batman Begins and T2 on Blu-Ray are enough to sway me. Besides, I've been meaning to get an upconverting player. Might as well just cut to the chase and get a HD format.

My digital television has no HDMI so I never saw any reason for an upconverter. Since Playstation 3 will allow high definition over components for gaming and at least most movies I have reason. I doubt it will allow upconverting DVD over components or 1080p over components (since all 1080p televisions have HDMI anyway). I have seen DVD upconverted to 1080i and while it definutly is still inferior to HDTV it definutly is an improvement. 1080p upconverting should be impressive. While HDTV will still look better the difference will be very slight.

Yeah, my second response to this thread got eaten by a forum bug, and I did have Evil Dead on my list of films. Then I realized there will probably be about 17 editions of it on HD before the end of the year :D

If these films were released in topnotch HD quality (no filtering or EE nonsense), I'd get a player and buy them:

Forbidden Planet
Lawrence of Arabia
Ben Hur
Wizard of Oz
Adventures of Robin Hood
The Godfather
Original Star Wars and ESB
Lord of the Rings Trilogy
All 60s Connery Bond films

No, there are not 10 titles that would make me cave and get HD.
I'm another one that would classify myself as a mid-adopter.

One thing I can see spurring me to move to either HD-DVD or
Blu-Ray is if The Pacific War miniseries that is being produced
is of similar quality to Band of Brothers. I could see that as
being a catalyst for me to make the leap.

The $500 price of the first Toshiba HD-DVD player sure is
encouraging. I expected the first players to cost twice that.
Assuming the prices fall as they usually do, if a standard
DVD player fails in the next year or two it makes sense to
replace it with HD-DVD or Blu-Ray at that point. If the prices
get down to a couple hundred dollars it makes an upgrade
for a working player much more likely for me.

First of all, I would need these movies in Blu-ray. Right now, I can't see myself "upgrading" to HD-DVD. With that caveat out of the way, here's my list:

Star Wars Trilogy (Any version; but would *love* to see the 1977 original again.)

Star Trek: First Contact

Star Trek: The Wrath of Khan

Disney's Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs

(In general, I need at least one of the Star Wars, Star Trek, and/or Disney animated classics on the new format.)

The Sound of Music

The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly

Terminator 2 (I know! It's already been announced!)

Goldfinger

Aliens

Indiana Jones Trilogy

E.T.

I'll make the leap when all of these are available, and/or July 2007 (whichever comes first)!

No. Quality is king.

If DRM and other crappy Hollywood schemes get in the way of me enjoying my collection... then screw 'em!
