Please tell me I'm not the only one here. Just wanted to know how everybody's progress is holding out in this depressing field.

Any biology/pre-med majors out there?
AMCAS says you're too bland. You've got to be a Russian linguist with 5 papers published by age 18. Although now I wish I had more bio/micro experience, I'm glad I went my own way with the triple Spanish/Computer/PreMed route. You would be amazed at some of the crazy majors of folks that get in, but I bet 75% are bio majors.
Being a Bio major will make your life much easier the first two years of med school though. Good Luck.
Back to the books I go. The (-) enveloped ssRNA virii are... Ugh!!!!

I was a bio major. I slacked off too much in Organic chemistry though. If I had the chance to do it all over again and I wanted to go to Med school I wouldn't have been a bio major.
Take the easiest major possible and just take the prereq's. It may be helpful in the longrun to have already known micro or immunology but it's harder to get A's in those upper-level biology courses.

B.S. in Biology & Pre-Vet Medicine, 1984 from UGA; does that count? It's just a lot of memorizing, not too bad except for Organic Chemistry (shudder). Wouldn't want to have to take those 2 classes over again.

My daughter is currently in bio/premed studies and has been published for some research she did with a research doctor ... details of which are WAY over my head :)
She's doing well.
Good luck.

Not that my story is going to inspire you to stay on course, but I was a Biochem major/ Pre-med a few year ago at the U of Arizona. Completed the Biochem major......my senior thesis was on Breast Cancer cells........took MCAT....did ok.......went through "some" med-school interviews....withdrew applications....decided to follow my heart and go into music.
Now I am in L.A......a grad student in USC's Scoring for Motion Pictures and Television program and having a ball while recording and conducting my music every couple weeks with a live orchestra on Paramount's scoring stage.
:)
So really the point is....make sure you are doing what you love to do. There is nothing better than making a living in this world and loving every minute of what you are doing. Hopefully you will figure that out before you spend $100K on med school. :)
Best of luck....hang in there.

My girlfriend is a PhD gradstudent for neurobiology. She's on year two.
I dropped out of college, and have been a unix admin for six years. Ah well :)

I'm not thinking of quitting by any stretch of the imagination. It's just that it...seems...like...forever...before...I'm...out.. .of...school...

I'm definitely taking a year off after I get my B.S. (nope, not Bachelor's in Science, the other BS everybody else knows

) in Biology. Man, that road isn't looking to be any fun anymore.

Haven't convicated with it yet, but I've completed all the requirements for a Biology degree that focused on genetics. Wrote the MCAT and did ok, but my average was about 5% to low. Add to that what I saw and heard from friends who had made it in and I decided not to persue medicine anymore. I just didn't want it enough.
So after this year I'll be able to add a compsci degree to my credentials and then I'm planning on an MBA before I finally give up the good life :D
