The same month that Shout Factory is releasing this "Movies 4 You" military war set, they will also be releasing two "Movies 4 You" sci-fi sets.

Vol. 1 consists of The Man From Planet X (1951), Beyond The Time Barrier (1960), The Time Travelers (1964), The Angry Red Planet (1959).

Vol. 2 consists of The Amazing Transparent Man (1960), Reptilicus (1961), The Neanderthal Man (1953), The Brain That Wouldn't Die (1962).

Both sets up for pre-order at Amazon.

Ok, so they're starting to raid the MGM library for midnight movies. That could be a good deal depending on the details, but otherwise I'm hesitant to double-dip yet again on many of these titles.

At $6.95 a set, though, you can get the new or OOP ones for a song. REPTILICUS goes for stupid prices on Amazon Marketplace; here it's $1.74. And maybe we'll get improved transfers.

The Brain That Wouldn't Die has been available for years on mediocre to poor public domain transfers. At least we'll be getting an "official" print from the MGM vaults that should look superior.

Yes, all of these are official MGM releases, including The Amazing Transparent Man, The Brain that Wouldn't Die, The Neanderthal Man, The Time Travelers, and Beyond the Time Barrier. All of these have never been officially released on DVD until now with bootlegs and PD offering filling in the void.

The Time Travelers, however, has an official stream on Amazon.com that is free to stream for Amazon Prime users. It appears to be a letterboxed transfer which will likely be identical to the Shout! disc.

Also, I wouldn't get your hopes up with man of the "new" titles in terms of OAR through this "Movies 4 You" line. Many of the 50s titles MGM owns were released open-matte during their MOD program and no doubt haven't been given updated transfers to the majority of them. I doubt MGM is giving them anything better for these collections, especially since they're DVD-only. The plus side is that MGM doesn't have very many P&S transfers since most of the UA and AIP titles they own were matted for widescreen, but there are titles like Robert Mitchum's Bandito that only seem to ever emerge in the same P&S transfer.

Shout at the Devil, however, will likely look very good given that it's heading to blu-ray. Also, it seems MGM tends to present most of their 60s titles in the correct OAR so we might get lucky on that front.

Lastly, that "Timeless Military" collection is mostly a joke. Shout at the Devil notwithstanding, Shout! Factory couldn't find worse movies to bundle in there if they tried. The Lost Battalion might be the best among the latter 3, but that's hardly saying much.

shout at the devil will NOT be included in this set according to amazon. it will have a bluray/dvd cvombo release on 10/8/13. go for broke is going to be included instead.
