Google has had these aspirations and has done it in some locales. However, they haven't gone nationwide, but recently announced that they would be rolling out in 17 cities.

Amazon is believed to be planning the launch of its on wireless network, allowing users to connect Amazon devices to the internet.

Rumors have that Amazon has been carrying out tests using technology provided by Globalstar, a satellite communications company, within its Lab126 research centre in Cupertino.

Maybe they would add free wireless to their Amazon Prime offering?!
