The BFI is well on with their Hitchcock restorations, but only for theatrical screenings as yet (they don't hold the home video rights). There's no indication when - or even if - they will appear on BD.
I can't wait to see "The Hitchcock 9":
1926 The Pleasure Garden
1926 The Lodger
1927 The Ring
1927 Downhill
1927 Easy Virtue
1928 The Farmer's Wife
1928 Champagne
1929 The Manxman
1929 Blackmail
I wouldn't be surprised if the come out on Blu-ray about a year after theatrical re-release. A long time to wait.
That still leaves several early talkies up through the 1930s unrestored.

The BFI responded to my query about BD releases, and no, they don't own the rights. However, they mentioned that The Lodger would be released by Network in the U.K. They have some BD's like the TV shows The Prisoner and The Persuaders. Network responded to my email that they cannot comment on future releases but to keep checking their website for news...so...maybe. I expect Studio Canal or someone else will do a box set of the 9 eventually.

I bought that set long ago. The transfers are fine -- especially JAMAICA INN which never looked as good anywhere else -- but the 4% PAL speed-up coming out of this set on American players is so extreme it makes the films hard to watch.

Can we expect the set to be region free? Generally Universal releases their films region free. In Region 4, Universal released the McHale's Navy blu-rays region free. In region 2, Universal has released Psycho region free in the UK. Also their upcoming UK release of Airport is region free.

I have several BD's from Sweden and Norway that state Region B on them, yet they play fine on my U.S. player. No guarantee, of course. I hear the David Lynch U.K. box from Universal is Region B locked.
I am region free, but I'd rather get these titles in the box set. I may bite if it's December before the box from Germany or the U.S.

If this is the actual box set, why is NBNW and 39 Steps on there? It's released by Universal. Is this a 'complete' Hitchcock set?

Hopefully this can be cleared up soon!
Interesting!
I love the box set look. I am very interested to see what is happening for a Hitchcock box set in Region A (US).

That cover is bloody awesome.

Also... looks like they made a deal with Warner for North by Northwest so the majority of the Paramount/VistaVision period should be here.

The more I see the box, the more I like it. Something that fits on a shelf, AND has some interesting, playful design. The art is -- not quite, but almost ... Criterionian. What's more, the disc art is consistent but still unique to each picture. (What a nice difference, compared to the Bond 50 set.)

I also like the book concept, and have no problem with the discs being store inside the cardboard pages. As long as they're made to last! I've been lucky -- my Laurel & Hardy set, for instance, was flawless, both the book construction and the discs. But I've never had a problem with a BD being damaged, in any case.
