This story deals with life in 391 AD Alexandria, Egypt the city named after Alexander the Great. The city Ptolemy built the famous "Light Tower". The city where Greek Pharaohs, Cleopatra, ruled for 300 years.

Pagans, Jews, and the new religion Christianity clash in what begins a war of words that quickly turns into a war of swords. Many are killed the Roman Army must step in to try to resolve the religious disputes. Starring academy award winner Rachel Weisz as Hypatia a brilliant science and mathematical teacher with no religious beliefs. She becomes caught in the middle of this religious struggle trying to save the library of manuscripts she treasures.

This period piece really shines on Bly-ray showing the costumes and ancient city in great detail with lots of depth. Agora is the very type of movie that shows just how wonderful Blu-ray can be.

Video: 1080P/24
Audio: English/French Dolby True HD Multi
Subtitles: French/Off (The Off works)
Region-Code: "B" Locked
Running Time: 126 minutes

Although a great success in its native Spain, it seems to have had little success elsewhere. Haven't seen it but presume this was down to the fact that the early Christians are shown in a less than flattering light. Will have to get it as a lover of Ancient History.

John you are correct the Christians are not shown in a good way they start the rioting that leads to killing of many of the Pagans. Being a period piece dating back to 391 AD it would be a hard sell especially in America. Those like myself, maybe you, who enjoy ancient history like these type of movies.
