Hi -

I just found this tread yesterday. I, too, sent "Howard" $740 for a television on August 12th. Like you, AVS just happened to be out of stock on just after they received my money. Can you tell me how to contact the BBB you all have in NY, as well as contact information for the local law enforcement and FBI? Also, has anyone had any luck sending registered/certified mail to the Roots address for AVS?

I've also included an email from "Howard" promising a full refund, as well as some other stuff that doesn't seem to have anything to do with my purchase, or their ability to refund my money. Subsequent email to him have been unanswered. I, too, find their websites disabled, and their telephone numbers ring busy all the time.

Thanks,

Michael

Dear Michael Wolf,

Per below email record on 10/08/2004 as you directed, I cancelled your order and submitted it into the Accounting Dept.
As per law accounting has 30 days to process and mail a 100% FULL REFUND. Although Accounting has never taken 30 days they do have other mandatory requirements by the Federal & State Governments. Therefore they also have governmental support to meet those imposed requirements.

Some requirements are: employee payroll, withholding taxes & social security, state sales taxes, Federal & State income taxes, numerous supplier payments for cost of goods, various insurance policies, shipping expenses, electricity, gas, etc. Therefore Accounting has to schedule everything in line to make sure everything gets paid the correct amount on time and does not get paid twice for a sizable company. They have to be careful and accurate the first time or major governmental penalties may arise.
I double checked for you with the Accounting Manager and your 100% FULL REFUND is in normal line up and will be done on time.

To All;

I just received a letter from AVS stating that they were going out of business and they were refunding 70% of my orginal payment, indeed also enclosed was a check from AVS's bank, with the memo written at the bottom of the check, "Refund Paid In Full"

Has anyone else received this letter? I am leary about cashing the check in case it relieves them from any further obligation for full payment.

I have received several emails from other victims, stating AVS has filed for bankruptcy. No one knows for sure if this is true or not.

I'm not even sure the check is any good or not since I haven't tried to deposit/cash it.

Advise please.
Thanks

Ike

Hey Clarence I,
First thing I'd do is call his bank and confirm that he has funds available to cash it. I've done this in the past and they'll usually comply. You'll need the check in front of you to read off the account and check number to them.

As far as the 70% check goes, I'd ask a lawyer if cashing it severs your right to full reimbursement.

Thanks for you input. Reading previous posts on this forum leads me to believe that this recent 'bankruptcy claim' may be just another part of AVS's overall scamming career.

Earlier 'service charges', No merchandise, etc., seem to be normal procedure for AVS.

Has anyone ever really received any merchandise from this company?
How can we be certain AVS is closed? All we have is Ralph Olson's word on paper.

I for one, will still pursue this matter until we are all remburised the full amount, or I am sure that this company/person is brought to justice.

Clarence there is someone on another forum who claims to have received something from AVS. However, I'm sure it is a completely fraudlant statement. It can be found at forum.ecoustics.com/bbs/messages/22/7641.html.

Found a few interesting items in a Google search of Usenet...tons of hits for these guys (mostly spam). These are WAY long URLS, so I'm not sure how they'll post, but here goes:

Note the dates. Looks like these guys have been at it for quite some time... I didn't post any of the spam/abuse reports, but this group appears to have a rep as notorious spammers. Notice also all the different e-mail addresses and ISPs, and even the varying websites. Olson...Knapp...as well as several others...all represented.

These are just a few random posts from the many to be found.
