The Reaping, from Warner Bros., was not particularly well reviewed when it arrived in theatres last April, and because of that it was with a bit of trepidation that I launched it in my BD player.

The first thing that struck me were the southern US locations. As someone who spends most of his time in NY or LA, I'm a sucker for southern gothic, and the American south in general. Place me in a town with Spanish moss hanging from the trees and I'm happy.

Without getting into the plot, I found the film a quality outing into the realm of religion, superstition, and things that not only go "bump" in the night, but do so with shock cuts.

Whatever one thinks of the story, the disc is a beauty. With strongly detailed imagery and an expansive sound field, The Reaping is a fun, if occasionally nail-biting visit to the swampy south.

It is brought to the screen with aplomb, along with possibly a few lapses of continuity via a superbly crafted BD or HD disc.
