Talk about a "star turn."

The 2005 appearance of Ellen Page, as if out of nowhere, put fear into the souls of prospective pedophiles, and her name on producers' short lists. Juno sealed the deal for the talented young actress. Patrick Wilson plays her unwitting friend.

One of the more recent, and best, of a crop of "turning the tables" films, Hard Candy is essentially a wonderful two-person drama. For those who haven't seen it, it's worthy of the time investment. Just best to not screen with kids in the room.

From a visual and audio point of view, the film comes off well on Blu-ray. Possibly a bit too sharp in some areas, the film escapes having a fully digital look, even though it went through the DI process after having been shot on 35mm 3-perf.

This is a thriller that captures your attention, and is not easily forgotten

Recommended.

RAH,

You inspired me.

Ever since I first saw Juno, I have become a fan
of Ellen Page.

This morning I watched Hard Candy and I find

myself completely dumbfounded. Firstly, I never

heard of this film until receiving a copy on Blu-ray

and then reading your thoughts about it. Secondly,

I am just blown away by the actresses' performance

that exceeds anything I have seen her in to date.

This is certainly an unnerving film to watch. You

go in expecting one thing and it quickly becomes

something else and by the time all its twists and

turns finally end, you find yourself exhausted by

the roller coaster ride.

This is certainly a film you will be thinking about

long after the credits roll. It's difficult to say that

I enjoyed the film other than for entertainment sake,

but I would not hesitate to recommend that everyone

take a look at it.

The Blu-ray transfer is quite good.

That's basically how I feel. It's a very well acted and very good movie but the subject matter was so creepy that I wanted to take a shower after seeing it. That feeling speaks to the power of the writing and performances though.

And for Ellen Page fans, check out the underseen Whip It.

I rarely PM anyone, but Michael's enviable writing skills prompted me to send him one many moons ago.

Amazon has HC for $10.99 and I'm looking forward to it. (Phantom is the only movie I've seen Patrick Wilson in so this sounds like an interesting contrast).

I have taken the plunge on multiple titles due to Michaels reviews. Law Abiding Citizen and The Secretary are two that come to mind, I know there are more. I'm planning on taking the plunge on Hard Candy too.
