Comcast has announced that HD digital cable and High Speed Internet service
will be available in my area in a couple of months. Their trucks can be
seen all over our area now. I moved to the country a year ago after having
Comcast Cable Internet for four years and missing it has not been easy since
all I can get is 56K dial up (DirecWay did not work for me). I have HD
service with DirecTV and a Sony SAT-HD300 receiver hooked via DVI into my
Sony KV-34XBR800 and get stunning results with this setup. However, I NEED
Broadband Internet. These are my questions:

    1) Many sources say DirecTV is better than digital cable HD. True or
    false?

    2) Keep DirecTV HD and just buy the Broadband Internet service?

    3) Sell the Sony receiver and get the reduced package pricing of Comcast
Digital Cable w/ HD and Broadband?

    4) Keep the above (3) and add VOOM as a true HD content provider?

    5) Is the cable equipment up to par with my current Sony receiver which
    upconverts everything to 1080i?

As you can see, this is a decision I do not take lightly and would
appreciate those that know to help.

If you are happy with your current set-up for HD, which you said you are, then go for #2.

Incidently, I have compared both Comcast HD & Direc TV HD, and I couldn't tell the difference.

I agree with David. If you are happy with your current HD setup, just add broadband and be done with it.

I forgot to add that I do not have local HD programming yet. I live about 60 miles from downtown Chicago and Comcast has said I can get their HD programming (when available). The DirecTV HD setup I have now would have to add an antenna (gain of some kind) at a cost. I agree with the consensus so far that keeping my setup and adding the Comcast broadband makes sense.
