7.1 receiver Channels echo (1 Viewer)

So I bought a used receiver off Craigslist and when I connected my bookshelf speakers into the channels it sounds echoey and not full at all not sure to much more on how to describe. However when I hook them into the center channel it sounds perfect and the way it should sound. Any thoughts?

Did you get the remote with it?
Did you get the owners manual with it?
If you got the owners manual...have you read it?
If you didn't get a manual, have visited Sony's website to download it?
What source are you listening to?
How is that source connected?
Have you done any set-up?
How many speakers do you have connected?

Got the remote but no manual. I'll check online for that. Using the aux source with the red/yellow plug to 3.5mm cable to connect iPod. Never hooked up a system before except on a 2.1 which is as simple as it gets. This however has me stumped because of the echo. Currently I have two speakers on the center channel to make sure they work and they sound great. However when I change to others they sound echoey

That is probably because of the delay set-up in the receiver. Your room isn't the same size as the room the prior owner was using it in.
You set delays(in milliseconds) so that all 5(or 7) sounds hit your ears at the same time. IF this has some form of room correction(did you get a microphone with it...or does it have a 3.5mm on the front marked "set up"?) use it.

Yes that AVR has auto calibration(room correction)...
The "echo" is more than likely because it is still configured for the prior owners room. You can find Sony Mics on Ebay.

I'm sure it's just a setting. I don't think it's the delay. The only normal sounding channel is the center. Everything else sounds the same. Bout half volume, no punch, echoey.

Have you gone into set-up to see if the center is raised a few DB, the rears are low a few DB....???
What sound mode is it currently in? Have you tried (whatever Sony calls it) "all channel stereo"?
Have you tried "direct"?
Have you tried DPL?
Have you tried DTS NEO?
