Hello all;

I am close to purchasing a new 60 inch TV and both the units mentioned above have perked my interest. 3D is not currently something I am interested in.

I am wary of Plasma just because of the history of these units, and wonder if I am not letting a long term bias against Plasma interefere from making the best decision. I'd always thought Plasma just doesn't last as long as LCD (or LED in the case of the Sharp LED Quattron) and would appreciate your input into the things I should consider and if my understanding of Plasma is simply out of touch with reality! On paper, the specs of the LG unit are far superior to the Sharp unit, but I cant find a retailer who actually displays the LG Plasma model so it you have one would love to know what you compared it to and why you went that way.

Any info is appreciated. Thanks!

Sharp has demonstrated repeatedly over the years that they value marketing gimmicks (adding yellow pixels) over features that actually enable better image fidelity (programs are mastered on displays with RGB pixels only). Their recent TV ads contain misleading and false claims. You may find this recent review worth examining:
http://hdguru.com/samsung-pn58c8000-3d-58-plasma-first-review/2384/ . It is by Gary Merson, one of the most critical reviewers in the industry.

I've not seen very good comments on the new Sharps, or Sharps from the last few years. I prefer Plasma, and would recommend taking a look at Panasonic.

Thanks for your comments and link. I did follow up on this and have quite some time looking into the 'new' technology behind the quattron and indeed! Clever marketing and very little new of anything else!

As a result I have settled on the panasonic 65 inch S2. I did look into the rising black levels discussed here and on AVS and am confident from what I have read and the people I talked to that the new panels for the 2010 models - for this size anyway - will not suffer the same challenge and from reviews have better black levels all around vs the S1 series.

Thanks for your input and guidance. It was indeed helpful. Cheers
