Are these going to be passive or shutter or both? Could it even be shutter?

If it attracts more people to the format, all the better to keep it viable.

Its in the side-by-side 3D format. Not the same quality as Blu-ray 3D but for free (you do have to subscribe to HBO and or STARZ to get their 3D movies) its not bad. 3D films on the free XFINITY 3D channel.

I think on my Time-Warner account, I have to subscribe to their 3D service ($15.99 per month) for the 3D on HBO and Starz to show up. I don't know that's true, but I can't think of any other reason 3D doesn't show up on their On Demand channels otherwise.

There's also a hardware issue. You have to have 3D-capable cable boxes or DVRs.

With Comcast I don't pay anything extra (below from their website)

Getting started with 3D from XFINITY

There's no extra charge for 3D from XFINITY! To get started you’ll need:

[*]A 3D capable HDTV with compatible 3D glasses connected with a HDMI cable
[*]XFINITY digital TV with HD service and a qualifying HD set-top box
    [/list]

Sometimes T-W relents and opens the 3D up to all. I watched some of the diving from last year's Summer Olympics in 3D. But right now, there is no 3D available for my use through my cable box, and 3D listings on HBO and Starz don't even show up as available.

I just wanted to add a side note. In order to be able to view the 3D HBO & 3D Starz movies, you have to have a subcription to HBO and Starz. Starz is free for me based on my subscription option (Digital Preferred - I think), and I pay extra per month for HBO.

I have the triple-play for phone, internet and cable so Starz and HBO are included.

Some of the movies that they have I bought on Blu-ray and wish I hadn't as I will probably never watch the blu-ray's again.
