Oz the Great and Powerful will be the first film of 2013 to break $200M

I found SPRING BREAKERS to be an incredibly bad movie but I guess many got punked by the title and this is why it's made so much money. I also thought THE CALL was rather bland. WONDERSTONE wasn't as bad as many said but the trailer made it clear that it wasn't going to appeal to many.

Box office wise I think the biggest shock is how good SILVER LININGS PLAYBOOK has done and especially when I don't think it ever got into the Top 5 (if it did I must have forgotten, it certainly wasn't there more than 1 wk).

I liked Springbreakers as much as you can like a movie that wallows in showing how horrible people are and I thought James Franco was amazing in it. I thought that movie would have done pretty poorly (though not so bad when you consider it's got to be a pretty small budgeted movie) because I saw it in a theater with one other person.

I thought The Call was OK until the point where

and then it was just ridiculous but I could tell that the crowd loved it.

I thought The Incredible Burt Wonderstone was pretty funny but the small crowd I saw it with didn't seem into at all.

Successful first weekend for MU, but that Saturday drop must be a little disconcerting. Shouldn't there be more families at the movies on Saturday than Friday?

We haven't had whatever's supposed to be the Big Blockbuster yet--So as things are going at the moment, I'd LOVE to see someone's face at this time last year when you told them that GI Joe: Retaliation would turn out to be the #1 box-office opening so far.
(Unfortunately, a lot of naively hopeful people are going to ruin it with big numbers for The Lone Ranger's opening, but I expect that to also "punk" the audience with a Pirates 3 style "Surprise!--It stinks!" At the moment, there are hints that the audience may be catching on and it might not happen, but best not to get too optimistic.)

I suspect "Friday" also includes all the Thursday preview showings - I'd bet that "actual Friday" and Saturday were comparable, if not in favor of Saturday.

I know it's anecdotal, but my local theater looked packed for "MU" on its multiple screens - I saw lines waiting for a 5PM showing...
