I would never have thought the Phillies had a chance for the division, considering the Mets had the easier schedule, and the fact that they dominated the Marlins and Nationals all season long. Until now!

The Phillies need to jump on Smoltz quickly.

The Rockies are on fire, and I can see them taking the division, with the 3 games against the Diamondbacks at home.

Much like the Braves, this strong finish by the Rockies (10 wins in their last 10 games!) is just amazing and a whole lot of fun. If they can pull off winning the Division, that would really be something!

To go from a record of 76-72 to 86-72 and then finish the season with a three-game series against the division leader is unbelievably exciting!

It's painfully clear that the National League is the inferior league, just like the NFC and the Eastern Conference of both the NHL and NBA.

Each team is pretty much saying to each other...

Team 1: "You can take it!"

Team 2: "No thanks, you can take it."

Team 1: "I don't want it. You take it!"

Which just goes to show that the playoffs are a fun little tournament, but don't actually mean or prove anything.

Mets won 13-0 this afternoon.

John Maine delivered 14 strikeouts.

Maine nearly pitched the first Mets no-hitter in franchise history; he gave up only 1 dreary little infield baby hit in the 8th inning.

Enjoy watching that scoreboard while you're playing your game against Washington, Phillies. The Met slump has ended. ;)

EDITED TO ADD: The Phillies lost! Gooooooo Washington!!!

And some added bonus... the Padres and Rockies have to play each other in a playoff game, then the winner travels to Philly. This should tire them out a bit, as well as make these teams use their ace early on.
