For 2003, 46-inch TheaterWide HD models and above feature CrystalScan HDSC All-Time 1080i...
Can anyone explain exactly what this does? It sounds like it up-converts everything to 1080i & I'm worried about possible artifacting.

Also, it looks like they've dropped the 42" set from the Cinema Series line, huh?

I hate to burst everyone's bubble, but the sets that have made it to BB stores were supposed to be pulled. Some issue (unnamed at this time) caused Toshiba to recall them.

Jed, there are often 2 different prices from the manufacturer. One is the suggested 'list' price, the other is the suggested 'selling' price. Most retailers use the suggested selling price on a day-to-day basis.

Dan, the literature I have says that you have an option of 540p or 1080i scanning. Until someone has the set in front of them though, who knows for sure.

Can anyone explain what IEEE-1394 with DTCP is? Is this a competing digital link to DVI(HDCP)? Also what is the difference between DVI-HDCP and DVI-HDMI? Which will Tosh employ? Thanks

Jon, sorry for the late reply...IEEE-1394 (aka Firewire) is a networking standard where many devices can be attached and they can 'talk' to each other. DTCP is data encryption for IEEE-1394. DVI is a high-speed 'point-to-point' interface that can only work between a source device and a display (no networking). HDCP is a data encryption standard for DVI.

Adrian...no word yet. I'm still being told late May/early June.

There will also be a new 57" LCoS that will not be included in the Cinema Series line. That means, hopefully, no problems finding one, i.e., they should be available in Best Buy, Sears etc.

Well, my local BB told me that the 51H83 is ready to order and in stock at the local warehouse. They don't have them in the store yet, but are available.

Just spoke to my Toshiba rep and Toshiba Canada got the first batch of 51H83s in last week (all pre-sold though).

He also dropped off the price list, so if any Canadians are interested in the pricing, drop me a line.

So the 42H83 has the same dimensions as the 42H82? Not good....I was afraid of that. It won't fit in my space. Thanks John.

PS Anybody know when the new Hitachi's are coming out?

Does anyone have info on whether the 57HL83, which is Toshiba's new 1080p LCOS HDTV, accepts a 1080p signal? It seems to me that would be almost as important as being able to display 1080p.

I could be wrong, but I don't believe there is going to be any such thing as a 57H93...just a 57HX93 (Cinema Series).

The 51H83 is $1899 at BB.
Same price at OneCall.
Don't know about other places.
