    Lawrence of Arabia

I can think of few films yet to released that I am awaiting more than LOA. This film begs for blu-ray but sadly doesn't seem to be on Sony's radar. Do you have any insight into this?

    Original Star Wars Trilogy Restoration

Ok this is what we know... The master film elements to the original pre-special edition Star Wars trilogy are in very poor shape. So poor that LFL had to reuse the old faces laserdisc masters for the 2006 2-disc releases. Heck the master negatives might have been junked for all we know...

    Russian WAR AND PEACE

This might just be the greatest film ever made . First saw it during a trip to New York in the sixties. Saw part one during the afternoon and part two in the evening. There has not been anything like it since and no doubt never will be again. Yes I do have the widescreen dvd but lets be honest...

    McLintock

I just finished watching this John Wayne film from 1963 and all I can say is that this is one of the best transfers I have ever seen. Colors and sharpness are outstanding. No restoration needed here. Also check out True Grit, another great transfer in the John Wayne collection.

    Godfather restoration questions

    AIRPORT

I remember seeing Airport at the Radio City Music Hall in TODD-AO when it first came out and was very impressed with the TODD-AO image. Do you think the TODD-AO elements still exist, and if so who might have them. It would be nice to see a new 65mm transfer onto dvd someday, but I doubt that...

Nothing Sacred & A Star is Born (1937)

I've read that both of these titles were restored some time back. They only circulate in poor quality, faded versions-even on TCM. Why aren't the restored versions available to viewers?

Under Capricorn (1949) - Restoring the film

Hi, Is there any plans for restoring Under Capricorn (1949)? Under Capricorn (1949) DVD released by Image Entertainment was completely washed out version. Long time ago, I got an Italian Version of the film. It looks brilliant. Its a lot different from the American DVD released by Image...

The Paradine Case - Hitchcock's Lost Film?

Hi Everyone, The Paradine Case is considered as Hitchcock's lost film. Selznick's editing destroyed many of Hitchcockian scenes. Many of the scenes had "long take technique shots." Here is an example. According to Book "Alfred Hitchcock: A Life in Darkness and Light", Hitchcock's...

    CLEOPATRA music placement

Fox really blew it when they put the music to the second half of the film at the end of disc one instead at the beginning of the second disc where it belongs. Do you think Fox will ever fix this?

    CLEOPATRA-FAIR LADY -DR DOLITTLE

My understanding is that the dvds of CLEOPATRA-MY FAIR LADY and DOCTOR DOLITTLE were from 35mm sources. In that case, will we ever see new transfers from 65mm sources, considering that new Todd-AO prints were struck for CLEOPATRA and DOCTOR DOLITTLE.

    Films in urgent need

OK, here's a stereotypical thread question. Do have a short list of films that, in your opinion, are most urgently in need of restoration by virtue of their artistic/historical value, or the precarious condition of the existing materials?

    The Alamo - Extended Version?

Mr. Harris, do you have any news on the possible restoration of John Wayne's Director's Cut of the Alamo? I read that the original print was found in London, I believe, but that they weren't sure they could salvage it.

    Initiating a restoration effort?

After reading a lot on film restoration projects, it seems like the actual restoration work is easy compared to the research before a frame is touched. What are the steps usually taken to convince a studio to restore a film? Is there a way to request an inventory of archival materials for...

LONDON AFTER MIDNIGHT is not lost

Mr. Harris, this is astonishig news, but news that is not complete. Apparently there is a print out there of this long 'lost' film, just waiting to be found. It was found once before, but the guy who came across it was a low level employee who couldn't get anyone to listen to him. Since that...

Recovering lost footage from It's a Mad Mad Mad Mad World?

Dear Robert A. Harris, I seem to look at the Criterion Blu-Ray of It's a Mad Mad Mad Mad World and it states that you've managed to reconstruct and restore a 197 minute version of the film closer to it's roadshow release and it's been put through a high definition transfer, which I would take...

Gone with the Wind 70mm Conversion

Has there been a discussion of the technical details of the 70mm conversion of "Gone with the Wind" in 1967? It is how I first saw the film and it was a huge ticket seller at the time. I would love to know how it was done. Thank you.

Films That Will Never Make It To Blu Ray.

The epics of Samuel Bronston have never been given their proper due on home video - mainly because of their deplorable PD status for many years.
