    Optical Audio Issue

Hi guys. I'm having the following issue. I recently moved to a new location. I previously had DirecTV, now I have Cable. Everything is working very well, with the exception of audio directly from the TV. Specifically, my Sony TV is a smart tv, and I use it for Netflix. I noticed after set-up...

    Issues with Sound (DirecTV)

I know what you mean,. This why I posted in the first place. I wasn't exactly sure of my issue. Now I'm doubting myself again. (even though the audio sounds good to me)

Gold plated or Gold tip banana plugs

Plus one to all of the other comments posted. Using the connectors makes it easier to work with. You can quickly remove or insert connections depending on your set-up. As far as sound, there will be no difference.

    Issues with Sound (DirecTV)

I got my hands on another mic. I basically got the same results. But since my sound is good after adjusting the crossovers (see Previous post in this thread). I'm happy that I have figured out my best set-up. Thanks all.

Do You Calibrate Your Sound System?

Given a choice I would use calibration, then adjust by ear. Let me give a quick explanation. Based on your viewing/music tastes, calibration may be too broad of a set-up. Meaning... You usually only calibrate with a few selected audio sources; or even just one. When I calibrate, I play the...

Why don't we use coax for cable?

Plus one to LeoA's post. It's a bandwidth issue. The digital compression allows the signal to encode better sound and picture. Of course this is oversimplifying it a bit.

Thanks for the reply. I didn't think to check the mic, but I can do it easily enough. I think I may have a way to borrow one. Rocky

    Issues with Sound (DirecTV)

SOLVED: My front channels are Energy CF-50's their freq. Response is 39Hz-20Khz +-3DB My surrounds are Energy CB-5s their freq. Response is 71Hz-20Khz +-3DB I'm marking this as solved. I had Audyssey do the heavy lifting by adjusting the sound and room specifications, then I tweaked the...

    Issues with Sound (DirecTV)

I looked up some of the set-up videos. According to what I read the crossover settings on the sub itself should be set to max. But get this....I have my crossover on my receiver set to the following: 250hz for my front and center channels. 120hz for my suround channels. I manually set this up...

    Issues with Sound (DirecTV)

New Question? My sub is an Energy ESW-C10. Here is the question. I have the sub volume set around 50%. The sub is set-to "ON", rather than off or auto. Here is the new question? During set-up of my system utilizing Audyssey, my crossovers are auto set. What should I set the crossover to be on...

    Issues with Sound (DirecTV)

UPDATE I decided to adjust my set-up by using Audyssey. It gave me good results with my rear channels; but my sub is still an issue. I may just have to bite the bullet and manually adjust the set-up. My underlying issue is that I recently moved, and my set-up is in a small area of an unfinished...

    Issues with Sound (DirecTV)

Wayne: Thanks for the reply. You make a good point. Generally speaking my sub-fires much better when the source comes from a dvd or Blu-ray. When Listening to DirecTV my sound is more muted and the sub never really fires. I'm having trouble putting it into words. The sound is dull no lows, no...

    Issues with Sound (DirecTV)

Hey gang: It's been awhile since I have posted. Quick question to point me in the right direction. When watching a source from blu-ray or DVD, my audio sounds great. For normal viewing of TV if you will (DirecTV) I never seem to be able to achieve the same quality I get from my blu-ray player...

Novice Audio Setup Help for Large Room

I agree on getting the receiver and the fronts first. BTW I use Energy speakers all the way around, and they work for me. There are many speaker choices in the range of the Klipsch you suggest getting in your post. If you have the chance demo them first. Through trial and error, I have found...

    Harmony 650 topic

I think I have an answer. I need to add a new command to my activity. The command will be to power off the receiver once the input is changed correctly. I think I can add a custom command using a 650. I know I can do it with my other Harmony remote.

    Decoding question

I get that DirecTV shouldn't need to use ARC, but I've read that it is best to use ARC through HDMI. If that statement is correct, then I would think that my original question applies. why is the audio better when using HDMI over a optical cable; or is it? btw thanks for your replies. Rocco

    Need Help with ARC

Why I am starting to get excited about BD 4K...

Just adding my $0.02 worth. I just purchased Sony's 4K tv. I know that there isn't a lot of source material out there yet. With that said, I purchased the TV with the mindset that I would grow into it if you will. I don't by technology for the sake of it, but I needed to add a TV to the house...

    Harmony 650 topic

Hey guys need some help I don't want t confuse anyone, so this question is for a second HT set-up, not my primary one. With that said, here is my question. The model of the devices isn't the problem for brevity, I'll leave them out. My question is about programming the Harmony 650 remote. I...

    Need Help with ARC

Thanks for clearing things up. Here's what I'm trying to do. In layman's terms I have a sat stb, a blu-ray player and a smart tv. There are times when I don't want to use my receiver. I just want to use the TV's sound. (mostly when I watch the news and other programming that I'm not critical...

    Need Help with ARC

I just received my new equipment and realized that the installers used an optic cable for ARC. I understand that ARC, is the audio return channel, in my install It's the sound coming from my TV back to my receiver. Great Review. I just picked-up the Marantz SR5009. We had some issues with the unit itself (see my other post), But I'm look forward to putting it through its paces. I split my entertainment between music and video. I'm hoping this receiver is up to the challenge. I paired it with Energy...
