I know what you mean,. This why I posted in the first place. I wasn't exactly sure of my issue. Now I'm doubting myself again. (even though the audio sounds good to me)

Plus one to all of the other comments posted. Using the connectors makes it easier to work with. You can quickly remove or insert connections depending on your set-up. As far as sound, there will be no difference.

I think I have an answer. I need to add a new command to my activity. The command will be to power off the receiver once the input is changed correctly. I think I can add a custom command using a 650. I know I can do it with my other Harmony remote.

I get that DirecTV shouldn't need to use ARC, but I've read that it is best to use ARC through HDMI. If that statement is correct, then I would think that my original question applies. why is the audio better when using HDMI over a optical cable; or is it? btw thanks for your replies. Rocco
