I've noticed several Criterion Collection blu-ray cases I've purchased are badly indented and creased due to the design of the blu-ray case. Short of trying to rebuy all of this artwork, is there a simple way to remove these indentations and creases without damaging the artwork? Please let me...
I've ordered replacement blu-ray cases from Criterion and been disappointed. The cases are invariably scuffed and scratched. I was curious if anyone else had a similar experience, and if anyone knew of another outlet to purchase replacement Criterion blu-ray cases. I would appreciate any...
Watching this now on TCM (3/15/15) - great to finally see it in it's proper aspect ratio, but if anyone else is watching, let me know if I'm correct. It sounds suspiciously like Albert Sharpe's voice has been dubbed. Not sure about the other actors. If so, what a shame. I have been hoping to...
A hope for this year: films of the Boulting Brothers on blu ray (hopefully from Criterion or one of the other boutique labels):BRIGHTON ROCKSEVEN DAYS TO NOONTHE MAGIC BOXPRIVATE'S PROGRESSI'M ALL RIGHT, JACKHEAVENS ABOVELUCKY JIMTHE FAMILY WAYTHE TWISTED NERVEProbably some I've missed, but I...
One of the many joys with each Twilight Time release is reading the thoughtful, brilliant, and insightful essays of Julie Kirgo. What a pleasure to not only have a great film in pristine condition, but to read a great critic's thoughts. Kudos to Twilight Time for continuing to be one of the best.
Does anyone know if there are any rumors of a forthcoming blu-ray release of Stanley Kramer's 1951 production of Death of a Salesman? I think I read that the Film Foundation did a restoration of the film, but haven't been able to find much information about details. A Criterion or Twilight...
Criterion did such a fantastic job with the first two films in the Glenn Ford-Delmer Daves trilogy (Jubal and 3:10 to Yuma) that I would love to see the final film, Cowboy, released. While I would love to see Criterion release it, Twilight Time would make an acceptable runner-up. Does anyone...
I have been interested in seeing this film for a long time, but have never seen a home video release. TCM also (to my knowledge) has never shown it. With the work of Criterion, Twilight Time, and other boutique labels, does anyone have any knowledge of a release in the foreseeable future?
Due to their quality, I would assume the majority of regular HTF members and visitors would rank Criterion #1. But I'm interested to get a poll of the top 5 of top 10 companies. I would rank them, based on my personal experience with their product, and knowledge based on reading reviews, that...
I understand the BFI did a restoration a few years ago that looks great. I would love to see Criterion release this, one of the few Hitchcock pictures I've never seen. I've tried a few times when TCM has shown it, but the print quality is dreadful.
What are the chances of this ever getting restored and put out in a blu-ray edition? The prints on TCM are dreadful. I know it's in the public domain, but curious to see if anyone had any insight.
I've long had an interest in this film, but like most in the public domain, the print qualities I've seen (including recently on TCM) are in very bad shape.
Does anyone know if the original film elements exist, and if there is the possibility of a restoration someday (perhaps by someone like...
I recorded this from TCM the other night, and the film looks to be in terrible shape. Does anyone know of any chance this has of being restored? I know it's reputation is not great, but being a huge Hitchcock fan, I would love to see the film, but major work needs to be done on it.
With the release of I Love Lucy and The Andy Griffith Show on blu-ray, I was curious - does anyone know if there are any plans to release The Fugitive on blu-ray? And if so, hopefully in its original form, with the original music, as CBS finally got right on the complete series box set?
With all the discussion of THE ALAMO, I was curious to see if there was something like a Top Ten (or Twenty, or Thirty, etc.) of the most endangered films. This is probably something experts like Robert Harris could best answer, but I'm curious if anyone else has knowledge on this, and what can...
It's been awhile since I've read anything on the status on this - does anyone know where we stand on a restoration of George Stevens' THE GREATEST STORY EVER TOLD? As the film is owned by MGM (I think) I shudder to think what shape the original film elements are in, but George Stevens, Jr. has...
These are my choices:
The Fugitive
Gunsmoke
Route 66
The Naked City
The Defenders
Ben Casey
The Lineup
The Rockford Files
The Outer Limits
And last (and no way in hell will it ever happen, but I can dream):
Playhouse 90
My understanding is that Mr. Herrmann completed the score for TORN CURTAIN, which Hitchcock then rejected. If this is true, any possibility the Herrmann score could one day be returned to the film in its entirety? I know a couple of scenes have had his score returned on the DVD, just curious...
The recent thread on John Wayne's "The Alamo" got me to thinking of films not only not on blu-ray, but which are either partially or totally "lost." My top 5 of "lost" films:
1. The Alamo (1960) Directed by John Wayne. The recent thread indicates the travesty MGM visited upon this film...
Had the good fortune to see The Alamo at a screening in Dallas tonight, first time to see on a big screen. I have a feeling the cut scenes added immeasurably to a greater appreciation of the film. Does anyone know the status of reconstructing/restoring the roadshow version, and hopefully...
Recently, I have played two discs (both Criterion) on my blu-ray player, and within an hour or so, both time, the picture has frozen and the player stopped playing. Neither of the discs looks scratched, in fact both are brand new. Could this be that the player just needs to be cleaned with a...
