I only want audio from the Apple TV and PS3. I don't use a cable box or TV tuner/antenna so I don't need any audio "from" the TV. I didn't realize there wasn't much of a benefit to using ARC. I did help that it would automatically turn the receiver and TV on but that is minor.

I have DTS and DD 5.1 content from either the Apple TV or PS3 (Blue-Ray) coming out via HDMI to the switch. It leaves the switch via an optical cable to the sound system.
