There have been so many versions of this film! Back in the day I loved the cut mentioned previously on a Japanese laserdisc, but I sold that off many moons ago! Does anyone know if that cut has ever been released on Blu-Ray anywhere?
In any event, I am thrilled to have this release and will...
This may or may not be the appropriate thread for this question -- mods feel free to move this to another topic as needed! But I was just wondering if this new AI powered "tool" could ever be used, for example, to clean up the dissolves in "Giant"? Or are costs too prohibitive to revisit that...
I had preordered directly from Criterion and just received my copy today. One of my all-time favorite films and scores. It features absolutely brilliant performances by the entire ensemble, and casts a unique, eerie spell from beginning to end. One of the great films.
Yes, similar to other Kickstarter campaigns hopefully they'll go far and above their original goal. I do love these films, so I had to double dip a bit but with no complaints!
Immediately Pre-Ordered! My all time favorite film. Hopefully this edition addresses and/or fixes all of the reported problems from previous releases of the film.
This news brought me to the verge of tears, actually, as it conjured up vivid memories of my first visit to Stu Kaminsky's office...
I would imagine that the ethos of friendship under fire, especially male bonding, came from the input of John Milius. His career is filled with examples of heroic friendships, i.e. "Big Wednesday", in which he tried to elevate such bonding into the realm of myth. As I recall, he was also...
I love both films, and have loved them since seeing them in their original theatrical showings in NYC. I went to the first showing of "Conan the Barbarian", which might have been a sneak preview (years ago so not sure!). A bunch of us were waiting in line on the upper East Side at a Theater...
Just an FYI that I received my copy of the 4k UIHD set of the Conan Chronicles today directly from Arrow. I am not sure when I'll have a chance to watch the set - probably over the weekend.
I also preordered from Arrow directly, and I've received similar emails concerning a delay for the Chronicles set. I also don't see any issue with the artwork on the Chronicles set which seem to be the original posters? I wonder what people are complaining about with regard to the artwork?
Wow that glowing eyeball illustration is a really odd choice for a cover! -- trying to give the film a "Village of the Damned" science fiction quality?
Just no!
But the film is wonderful IMHO so the cover is a trifling concern.
Not that this is pertinent, but I saw the film when I believe...
Just to offer a sideways opinion that is no way obviates the previous one offered by owen35: I find the opening scenes at Harvard to be the heart and soul of the film, and they've always struck me, even on a first viewing of the original version all those years ago, as heartbreaking and...
Update years later. The Blurays both US and Japanese were comparable...but !!!!! there is now a 4K UHD set of the restored version of the film available on disc from TOHO. Here is a link to Amazon Japan for the set:

Just a quick correction to my earlier post -- the beautifully shot scenes with characters climbing out of a window and wandering around a small town are, of course, early morning. As the scene continues on a bit we see the town coming awake as the characters wander through it. Also it isn't...
I was rereading this discussion and found my own comments in which I stated that I had cancelled my purchase of the newest SACD release of the Solti "Ring" cycle. Of course, two weeks later I placed another order for that set and this time splurged on the SACD/Blu-Ray bundle. So much for...
I've never seen The Carpetbaggers" in a theater, only on TV, and I may be having a senior moment -- is there now or has there ever been a tacked on opening scene to the film that had fleeting female nudity that caused the "Adults Only" label when it first opened? I recall language to that effect...
Like others I always hated edited for TV aspect ratios, even as a kid. When I purchased my first VCR I only shelled out for either 4x3 movies or non-widescreen movies since I believed 1:85 or 1:66 films, etc., were not wildly abused by the aspect ratio issue. I did tape probably over a...
Just thought a TV show from the 1980's deserved a mention in this terrific and amazing discussion:
One of the truly groundbreaking TV series ran on Showtime from July 13, 1984, to May 5, 1989, for a total of 115 episodes. That series, "Brothers", is largely forgotten now, mainly because it has...
Re Deleted comment: I reread it and it was, frankly, all hearsay as I was not in the room or at the dinner table when Mr. Laurents discussed the film. I did meet Mr. Laurents when he attended a workshop of a musical that my best friend was working on, and he and Tom were quite lovely as they...
Just received my copy and will be giving it a quick spot check tonight -- with a full viewing over the weekend. Thank you to Mr. Harris for his devotion to this project! Can't wait to watch the film. I've spent the last couple of months amassing a big stack of George O'Brien films so it may...
I pre-ordered the French Steelbook 4k UHD, and if relevent to discussion, I believe they are stating it should be released (or perhaps arriving?):
Vendredi, décembre 1 -
Mercredi, décembre 6
Radiance has announced a new "restored" limited edition of "The Horrible Dr. Hichcock". It looks from the outside like a great release.

I'm not sure I have any other Radiance editions? I have always adored this film and...
I've just received my copy of the Best-Buy 4k Steelbook edition -- and for those wondering it does include a blu-ray of the film, too.
Just thought some might be interested in this as there seemed to be complaints regarding the lack of a blu-ray with the 4k set. So that ain't so.
