If I remember correctly, George Feltenstein in a past podcast saying that the Lucy & Desi films were big sellers on DVD. I think Forever, Darling will make its way to Blu-ray at some point.
Sony does not have home video rights to The Last Emperor. It has never been released by them. Criterion currently has it licensed it from Hanway Films,
It's starting... most of the upcoming release pre-orders are gone now from Best Buy.com. Up until recently they listed pre-orders for early 2024 releases, Criterions, Shout factory etc. all gone now. Or at least at this moment.
I wish Best Buy would consider keeping the online purchase option. It has always been nice to have somewhere other than Amazon to purchase from. Yesterday my pre-order from Best Buy of The Way We Were UHD delivered to me.
I think the last time I went into a Best Buy store was last year's...
My pre-ordered Best Buy order came in the mail today. I just watched the extended cut and thought it was quite good, and surprisingly did enhance the story. It is not just footage added for padding. The disc itself, is stunning. Sony delivers again with a superb 4k restoration.

We really don't know if Sydney Pollack would have minded if the film was altered or not. He might have been fine with it as long as the original theatrical cut was included (as it is.) There probably would have been an audio commentary by the both of them, and the subject would have been...
They should have placed George Feltenstein to curate a truly substantial group of sets that represent WB's history as a studio. No MGM, New Line or RKO should be included.
American Graffiti I think is a given. Paper Moon seems like a logical Paramount Presents release. I would not count on anything from Disney or Fox though.
Really great selection for Vol 3. To Sir, with Love is a nice surprise. I thought Poitier would be in this set, but was thinking Guess Who's Coming to Dinner? I probably would have included either Tootsie or Silverado instead of Annie for the 80's selection. But not a big deal. Criterion...
Per Bill Hunt and rumors on another site, it appears that Vol 3 will include It Happened One Night, From Here to Eternity, The Last Picture Show, Annie and As Good as it Gets. Nothing yet regarding 6th title. I'm going with a 60's film, either A Man for All Seasons or Guess Who's Coming to...
I watched it last night. The film really holds up well after 42 years. It's sad that Hollywood does not produce films like this anymore. Filmmaking is not like it was back in the day. The studios have lost their luster.
Unfortunately, Sony does not have home entertainment rights to The Last Emperor in the U.S.and most of the world. Otherwise, I'm pretty sure it would have been considered for UHD. At one time it was with Artisan Entertainment in the U.S. before Criterion released it.
My early speculation of what they possibly could include in Volume 3.
The Lady from Shanghai (1946)
On the Waterfront (1954)
A Man for All Seasons (1966)
Funny Girl (1968)
Tootsie (1982)
Little Women (1994)
I received my copy I today and I just popped it in to take a peek. IMO it looks quite good. Much better than I expected. I cannot wait to watch it this weekend.
