This may be a stupid question, but:
1) cant someone travel to the archive, brining a scanner (I don't know how easily they travel) scan the film, then come home. Perform any restoration here from the scan, then release it?
or 2) could they ship the print to the states to be scanned
or 3) if...
Mister Lime,
Back in January you said Dersu Uzala had 'some issues'. I wonder if you could elaborate. Any info at all would be greatly appreciated. As it was 70mm im sure it could look stunning on Bluray. Strangely, as far as I can tell, there isn't even a Japanese Bluray of this yet!
Saw the post about Dersu Uzala. Don't know what the issues are but I hope they can be resolved because it would look stunning on bluray, coming from a 70mm print that is. Hope it comes.
IMHO Heaven's Gate was tediously boring, I could barely get through it. As far as 'history of films' goes, I think that John Wayne directing, producing, and partly financing his dream project gives it some historical significance. Look, The Alamo is no Lawrence of Arabia, but it is a well made...
Money should not be the problem. Surely there is a way to raise the money. I would donate to any kickstarter fund. Corporations, the Wayne family, celebrities interested in film preservation - surely the money could be raised.
A lot of people are contacting MGM, via twitter and facebook - hundreds of posts, soon thousands. (the savethealamo facebook page has received over 1000 likes in about 2 days and still growing). It looks like about 90% of all the posts on MGM's facebook page the past 3 days have been about The...
I posted on MGM's facebook and twitter. I also joined the 'Save The Alamo' facebook page. I emailed the John Wayne Enterprises site (which i believe is headed by his son).
Show your support. Post on MGM's pages. 'Like' the Alamo posts. Maybe this fan campaign will go viral.
I'm confused. Does a restored print of IAMMMMW exist? I have seen recent sites advertizing screenings of a restored 70mm version running 197 min. The Film Society Lincoln Center showed it on Saturday, December 22, 2:00pm and Friday, December 28, 5:15pm 2012...
