I'm in a holding pattern myself until we get confirmation as to what is being included in the box set. Back in the day I would already have pre-ordered this but am just not feeling quite like the "fanboy" as I used to. Maybe it's the "Disney Effect." lol As someone else mentioned earlier in...
While I can agree about the number of releases this has had on blu (too bad we couldn't have had 4k UHD release) but they did include enough supplements to make this worthwhile including not just the theatrical cut but the tv cut as well. Add to that we'll see how Arrow handles the color timing...
Funny I never even considered Disney could potentially release their old tv series as part of the "Movie Club." Although I suppose we're more likely to see anything like that on their streaming service. It's too bad the old animated shorts, Donald, Mickey, etc couldn't have been upgraded to...
This is great but unfortunate at the same time. Maybe, just MAYBE if we get an unlikely blu ray release they won't have cropped it into widescreen. Still bothers me to no end that classic tv shows get cropped in this manner. The picture also looks to be dimmer, I always recall that show was...
Like others I want to read the reviews first, though I am sure this release should be "definitive." It is too bad this wasn't offered prior to the MGM remastered release since so many don't wish to double dip on the same movie. Add to that the extra cost for this one. I hate to play the "if...
That's what I was going to do Robert and I agree. I personally prefer going through Best Buy (they have always been great about ensuring delivery on release day). So far I haven't seen anything on their site.
This is just one of the reasons I loathe to see a studio get so big and swallow up every other studio. What justification do they owe anyone when they don't have any real competition out there? To me this just seems like a passing thought for them to release hoping more people will subscribe...
I'm aware of that but to my understanding reading someplace that there were some errors involved with some of them. Not sure exactly what but would still like to see a physical release in HD for those shorts.
That's promising for Vol 3. I know many others, including myself, would love to see the 1930's Fleischer shorts restored for a blu release at some point before interest dies down and sales inevitably drop.
As Rick said above it would great to see them revisit Tom and Jerry for more release...
I know there was supposed to be a panel at the San Diego Comicon a couple of weeks ago in which WB was going to discuss the 90th anniversary of Popeye this year and their future plans, however I cannot find any information as to what was discussed. Does anyone know of any details that were...
I believe the 20th anniversary VHS had it as well, that was an Anchor Bay release too wasn't it? I have the anniversary tin box and it was a really nice set they put together, hard to believe it's been 20 years since that release already! Ultimately it would be nice to just get it on a UHD...
I will have to find that for you as I was at my buddy's house this past weekend and he showed them off to me. They actually looked spectacular and did not look like SD upconversions either.
These are also available to purchase on Amazon digitally in HD and I have to attest they look great. I don't own the DVD sets nor would I want to after watching the digital versions.
Has anyone else noticed that Amazon has some of the 1930's Popeye shorts available to purchase in HD? I am curious if this might lead to a potential physical release down the road. Would love to see the Sinbad 2 reeler in HD.
Granted these are not the "best of the best" of the shorts but nevertheless they warrant a purchase and viewing to put things in perspective. To my knowledge these have never seen the light of day on home video of any kind. As stated in the review, it is important that if you support classic...
You're right Carlos, I just watched this last night and felt that while the movie was done extremely well I was left feeling the audio track was underwhelming. Where was the low end on this movie? I just set up a new SVS SB 3000 subwoofer on my system last week that has left me impressed but I...
I know it is much too early to tell but it would be nice since sales of this seem to have done well that Warner would continue for Popeye's 90th anniversary this coming year.
I know the chances are slim to none but is there any potential chance this series will ever be freshened up and released on blu ray? At least up through the end of Dick York's run? I have the original Sony individual sets and while I have enjoyed them I was unaware of the differences in the...
I wouldn't mind a prod in the right direction for this as well if it's not too much trouble. I've been hearing a lot lately about a good 30th anniversary xfer but so far I've turned up nothing. I received the Indy box set several years back as a gift and have only watched Raiders once and it...
Heck if I remember corrected that as late as 1986, wasn't the animated Transformers Movie animated at full screen but just cropped for its limited widescreen showings? I don't have any hard evidence but I thought I read somewhere that quite a few animated programs meant for theatrical display...
I saw this news yesterday and was very excited by this find. Findings like this give me more hope that eventually Hats Off will be found, even if it's a 16 or even 8 mm dupe. Something is better than nothing. Gad this reel is in good hands with Lobster as I'm anxious to watch the missing...
That's good to hear as I'm hoping to pony up and order the Deitch set soon. Like you I much prefer these over the Jones shorts. To me the golden era ended with Deitch. I only wish they offered this on blu as well.
Well I finally got the inventory error email as well. They are still showing it for sale on their site as of today. I wonder if I re-ordered it with their fastest service...probably just get their email faster too I suppose.
I second and would gladly repurchase these however knowing Disney, at best they would release "best of" sets for their online club only. Look at what they've done with their live action classics like "The Love Bug." I'm starting to wonder if "The Black Hole" will ever see the light of day again.
I'll try to find a link to the forum about the canada thing. I just came across it earlier this week researching this latest news concerning overstock. I was never to crazy about Overstock and I'm sure the customer service, or lack thereof, isn't too knowledgable or informed about their...
