Surround speaker placement in a 5.1 system

I think I'm ready to go on this. I attached a diagram of my family room for reference. The red areas are not usable space for wall mounted speakers. The green diamonds are the front and left bookshelf/floor standing speaker locations and the green arrow is the center speaker. There doesn't seem...

Surround speaker placement in a 5.1 system

I'm really having trouble with the whole design. I will post a room diagram to get some ideas. Is this the best forum for that type of advice?

Surround speaker placement in a 5.1 system

I have slab floors and need to run wire through the walls and ceiling. The wife won't go for speaker wire across the bare floor.

Surround speaker placement in a 5.1 system

My question is regarding where to place my surrounds in a 5.1 system. My choices boil down to in-ceiling vs. on-wall. The problem is that my odd shaped family room won't really allow me to have the speakers on-the wall or even floor-standing if I want to keep the angles to my main seating...

    Front speaker placement issues

Thanks everyone. I think I may go with floorstanding speakers and compensate for the different width from the center with my AVR controls. Anyone see a problem with doing this? Front speaker placement issues

No, there's an equal amount of space on either side which is 10 inches. I have listened to a few different speakers that would fit. One example is the MartinLogan Motion 4 which is about six inches wide.

    Front speaker placement issues

My AVR is a Yamaha HTR-4065. I know, that wall sucks, I almost had the guy talk me into in ceiling speakers. My main concern is the symmetry issue. Should I be less concerned about width if I keep things symetrical. Probably doesn't matter as much for rear surrounds?. Current speakers are Bose...

    Front speaker placement issues

I'm finally setting up my family room for 5.1. My issue is the wall that has my current set up is 20 feet in width but has two windows, a fireplace, and a recessed entertainment center. The back of my room opens into the kitchen and hallway, so no rear wall to speak of. I've had two different...
