    SMILEBOX

Personally, I would love to see the 70mm films originally branded as Cinerama made available in SmileBox format. I know that die hard purist will argue against this and that is fine. From a historical viewpoint, 70mm Cinerama did exist and to avoid giving any historical recognition is sad. I...

70mm film transfer to bluray using SmileBox simulated curved screen

Very cool. However it looks as though you have to use a projector to do this. It would be nice to have the ability to do this from a blu ray player connected to a flat screen television.

70mm film transfer to bluray using SmileBox simulated curved screen

If you have the money you can get a slightly curved wide screen installed in your home. For those with deep pockets they can get such bells and whistles. For the average schlub like myself we are at the mercy of what AND how a distribution company want us to view films. Again I will state that...

70mm film transfer to bluray using SmileBox simulated curved screen

You're right...most people really don't care how a film is shown. The thing that really matters is if the film is any good. I enjoy watching High Noon on bluray in b&w, 4:3 ratio, monophonic sound over the bluray release of This Is Cinerama. No offense intended to David Strohmeier or anyone else...

70mm film transfer to bluray using SmileBox simulated curved screen

I am against stretching 4:3 out to 16:9 on a TV. This has nothing to do with converting 70mm to SmileBox curved screen simulation. Take the time to watch Cinerama Adventure documentary and you will see examples of not only true Cinerama films in a curved screen format but also 70mm "Cinerama"...

70mm film transfer to bluray using SmileBox simulated curved screen

I own a 60" Panasonic 3D tv. Watching a SmileBox curved screen simulation I have utilized the simulated 3D effect and the curved screen appears to be coming out of the wall of your viewing room making it appear that you have a virtual curved screen in your viewing room. The effect is best in a...

70mm film transfer to bluray using SmileBox simulated curved screen

I watched a documentary about the filming of Oklahoma in Todd-Ao which was initially created as "Cinerama out of one hole". They used a 120 degree "bug-eye" lens for wide shots but only sparingly in the first Todd-Ao presentation. To demonstrate the effect the SmileBox simulated curved screen...

70mm film transfer to bluray using SmileBox simulated curved screen

Is there anyone out there who may know if there are any plans to convert any of the large film format movies filmed in Todd-Ao, Super and Ultra Panavision to the simulated curved screen SmileBox format as many of them were intended to be shown on a curved screen?:)

Now that HTWWW is out in Smilebox on Blu-ray....

I too would love to see many of the 70mm films made in Ultra Panavision, Super Panavision, Todd-AO and other large film formats transferred to bluray using the SmileBox simulated curved screen.
