'For now" is certainly worrying to a degree. But so long as they are making a profit I would like to think they would keep it going. But if sales decline over the years and it is no longer making coin for them I feel there is no doubt they will drop it.
For what its worth there was a DVD release of Arise My Love in Spain about 10 years ago. I ordered a copy and was really impressed with the quality - was definitely not a boot-leg like some Spanish discs are (and if it was it was of excellent quality). Also, the Spanish subtitles were removable.
I had a copy of Fort Apache (1948) on DVD which I only recently discovered. I also happen to find out it was on Blu Ray so I ordered a copy of it on Blu Ray. I got the Blu Ray this week and it placed fine so I thought I should test the DVD of Fort Apache before I sell it off. Anyway, got to the...
He was the first major actor from Bonnie & Clyde (if you don't count Gene Wilder) to pass away as Beatty, Dunnaway, Hackman & Parsons are all still with us.
I ordered Next Stop Greenwich Village & The Presidents Lady. Charlton Heston and Susan Hayward make such a great team in that film, can't wait to watch it again.
Will be getting Line of Demarcation & And Hope to Die. To favourites from that era.
I believe Line of Demarcation may be a home video premiere in the U.S?
Thats right - the VHS release I saw back in the early 1980s was called Spaceship. I think they may have changed the titles to try to capitalise on 'Airplane'.
The Creature Wasn't Nice is such a great and appropriate title for the film.
Hopefully Damn Yankees will be out on Blu Ray sometime soon. Its a shame Warners didn't release a dozen titles a month on Blu Ray.
It does sound like the disc is dead but over the years I've had the odd disc die, not related to the Warners 2006-2009 issue, though I've had over a dozen from that...
KL Insider,
Will the Blu Ray for Long Days Journey Into Night be 2D compatible (i.e. able to be played in either a regular Blu Ray machine as well as a 3D player)?
I understand that some 3D Blu Rays are released in that manner.
I purchased:
Melvina and Howard
The Other Side of Midnight
The Last Hurrah
The Whole Town is Talking
Blue Denim
Gloria
The Return of Frank James
Bedazzled
I forgot to mention that I watched The Grass Harp (1996) a couple of weeks ago and it played fine. I don't think it was pressed by the same place as the problem Warners titles. It was a FineLine release that Warners acquired when the purchased New Line and I'm not aware of any Fine Line or New...
I still have about a dozen Warners discs to watch. Some released in out snap cases (of which there have been no reported problems) and some Garbo films.
Tonight I thought I would give Some Came Running (1958) a spin. I have the French pressed DVD which was released around 2006. I understand its...
Watched Alice Adams (1935) and it played fine. However, the disc was from 2003 (in a snap case) and I've not heard of any reported issues of films released from this period.
Also watched The Flame and the Arrow (1950). The film played fine however I could not access any of the special features...
I've just finishing watch the stand alone release of It Happened on 5th Avenue (1947) and it played fine. Beautiful print that is ripe for a Blu Ray release.
I've been on holidays to the outback of Australia for a couple of weeks so now I'm back home on my regular Sunday night Warner watching.
Whilst Sergeant York (1942) played well through but from about the 90 minute mark the film stops for a split second about 7 to 8 times. This may have been a...
Just finished watching David Copperfield (1935) and it played fine. Don't expect a Blu Ray upgrade any time soon though (unless Warners have restored it). The print whilst generally good will need restoration in some places I'm afraid.
Just finished watch Humoresque (1946) and it played fine. This was part of a Joan Crawford boxset. I upgraded my copies of Mildred Pierce, Possessed & The Women to Blu Ray and sold off those DVDs. I will need to watch The Damned Don't Cry in coming weeks to check that it is playing ok.
Just finished watching Advise and Consent (1962) and it played without any problems. The print used for the DVD is excellent - the transfer is stunning. I wouldn't be surprised to see a Blu Ray sometime in the near future.
Just watched The Life of Emile Zola (1937) and it played fine. Can't see a Blu Ray of this coming out any time soon - whilst the print was good for a DVD it will need work for a Blu Ray release.
I watched Anna Christie early today. Its a flip disc and was part of a Greta Garbo box set that I broke up. I only watched one side which played the 'English language' version of the film and it was fine (can't see this coming to Blu Ray anytime soon - restoration is much needed). I didn't and...
Just watched The Shop Around the Corner and it played fine.
This wasn't a 'single' disc but part of a TCM 4 movie pack with 2 flip discs. The other films are Christmas in in Connecticut, A Christmas Carol & It Happened on 5th Avenue.
I have a single disc of It Happened on 5th Avenue which is...
