Well, I just can't afford to change all the speakers at one time, so I guess I'll have to live with the poor center quality for now, and be happy with my new subs. I wish there was a way for me to upgrade in stages without creating timbre matching problems. Thanks for all your help I've learned...
The Onkyo receiver can power 4 ohm or 8 ohm speakers, but it is all or nothing. All 8 ohm or all 4 ohm. I'm wondering now if I can just substitute the center speaker with a better 8 ohm speaker to improve the dialogue. I suppose the center needs to match the mains.:(
Thank you for that useful information. This makes the Swan M3's look very attractive to me except, for the fact, there is no matching center. Do I need to match the wide speakers with the mains. My current speakers are 8ohm speakers. The Swan M3's are 4ohms, so I need to buy a 4ohm amp to run...
I live in a rural area, so there really aren’t any showrooms to listen to this stuff. So I am buying deaf, and I am relying on the internet community to be my ears. The M3’s look interesting, and will work perfectly for replacement of my current mains. As you said, I don’t see a matching center...
I thought the SVS M series were 1399 each. I ruled out bookshelves because I wanted a 3-way speaker. I am reconsidering bookshelves now, because the cost is just too high for a 3-way system.
The Axiom M80 and the 180 look great, and the price is great. I have to tell you I am still confused as to why speakers cost so much. Most of the prices seem unjustified. I honestly don't care if the speaker cabinets are made from plywood & spray painted with black paint as long as they sound...
I purchased a pair of a5-350s last week on advice found on this forum. So that is why I got interested in the EL8s, and the lay away plan they have helps me out. I don't see any affordable Paradigm speakers that are 3-way. The PSB Imagine series looks affordable, but it is not 3-way either.
Thank you for your suggestions. The PSB T-6 tower looks interesting. I've also been reading about SVS M series, and I see mixed reviews, so am unsure about them. I am interested in 4 ohm 3-way speakers. to narrow the search down a little.
Ouch!, On the Revel Salon 2's at $16,000 per pair. I'm looking at something much cheaper, but higher quality than the Newegg offerings. I have been looking at the eD EL8.3t towers & EL 8.3c, but that is straining my budget, and I would have to buy a separate amp to add 4 ohm speakers to my 8 ohm...
I don't want it playing all the time. I just want it to randomly play when I want it too. I don't like the anguish of choosing movies. I'd like it to be like winamp, and select shuffle when I want, and be able to search the data base when I want, by title, actor, director, or other criteria...
How is your hearing? Are you in the music business? I'm building a PC for my sister, and upgrading my gaming sysem, so I am quite aware of hard drive prices. Luckily, I found a 500GB Hitachi 7200 rpm drive for 49.99 around Black Friday. About the movie server, I'm not building one anytime soon...
I didn't pay with Dwolla. I feel really happy with this decision, but I probably won't get them till next summer. I then have to work on upgrding my main speakers and center channel. Hey, do you have any insight into building a movie server for the house? I am waiting for hard drive sizes to...
Do they have a payment plan for that subwoofer? Wow, I never heard of a subwoofer hoarder. Maybe we should call someone to do a show on you, lol,:D OK, so I gave ED $200 down on a pair of A5-350. Not as good as 0% interest for a year, but at least I can't get into trouble with that kind of...
I meant under $1000 each, but truthfly I don't see myself spending more than $1,500 in total. A pair of ED's if I buy two are going to cost $1,430 with discounted pair. I think that is probably my best deal. So, I think that is it the ED A5 - 350 @ 800.00 each, or $1430 for a pair. Someone...
Unfortunetly, I can't move the speakers out 2', and I don't have a cable long enough to put the sub on the back wall yet. Are there any 15" + subs out there that are affordable?
I agree with you there, so I'll update the list: I am leaning toward the ED A5s - 300 because it is $1,000 for a pair, and they'll let me order now, and send payments until paid off. I can just use my current subs until then. What do you guys think? Does one of these clearly stand out above the...
About building my own subs, I would actually enjoy this, but considering I have no tools this will get more expensive than buying one prebuilt. Also, it will be more addictive than crack. I better not go done that road with my budget. I can't apply the crawl method to this situation. They have...
Well it is a 9.2 system, and I added an extra amplifier to add the back speakers. It seems like it should handle that, I talked to Onkyo before I did it, and they are the ones who suggested the M-282. Maybe suggest is to strong a word, but they said it would work. What would you suggest to keep...
The difference between the PB12-NSD & the SB12-NSD is $90. If I were going to spend above $600 for a sub I'd want it to be a keeper, so I would spend the extra $90 or even a little more to get something that was going to be "perfect". However, I definetly want two subs. I think it makes a big...
I don't think I'm up for the task of building my own. I am listening to one of the Klipsch speakers now, and although I don't particularly like the quality of the sound. It sure is giving me floor the floor shaking experience I never had with my CSW P300HD. I do miss the second subwoofer the...
I don't own any tools, and I'm not so handy, but I'll consider building my own. Are there any resources you can point me too? Also, I called SVS, and they strongly suggested this speaker: PB12-NSD. I plugged in the unbroken Klipsch speaker, and I have to say it sounds as cheap as it looks. It is...
Update, I just got the two Klipsch subwoofers in the door and opened the box, and one was busted. They kind of seem like cheap pieces of crap, to tell you the truth, so I am returning both of them for a full refund. I am now considering two SVS SB12-NSD, but that will set me back some serious...
OK, I just took out the tape measurer, and measured the room. It is 15 x 15. Thanks for the link to the cables I saved it for future reference. This is the cable I bought...
I originally posted 12.5' x 12.5' for the room in error. That was a typo; the room is 25.5 x 25.5. On the cables, I got 50' cables because I am going to run the subwoofer cables under the floor to the other side of the room, so it was more expensive getting the longer cables. On the subwoofer...
I've been building this system with parts on sale, over time. I first only intended to buy a 5.1, and then I started getting excited about. It wasn't a well thought out plan. Although, I would have done things differently if I were to start over; I am still pleased with the result. I got these...
