The video quality is definitely my big concern. I'm fairly new to buying classic shows on DVD so I'm not sure how often they're redone. Dragnet look decent but later seasons are lacking. I want Emergency! but have heard about the lackluster video quality. I'm blown away when I look at the early...
I definitely become frustrated when I see how good Mannix looks. Or how thorough a job Time Life did with the Six Million Dollar Man. Shame other series couldn't receive a bit more care.
I'm happy when series are released in full. Kojak. Mannix. Dragnet. The one thing that bothers me is when the series could have been cleaned up a bit more or extras could have been included. I hate that studios don't go all out with releases. Who knows if there will ever be a chance to improve...
I'd like more "Police Story," "Police Woman" & "The Rookies". Love to see "The Bold Ones" & "Name of the Game". Nor happening but I wish there was a decent blu ray release of "Miami Vice".
So... as someone who peeks at this thread occasionally but loves the series, it's safe to buy now? I can get disks in question replaced? I'm dying to have it!!
I really really love "Police Story" so I hope more gets released. It was a show that i'd never seen before but really got into. "Police Woman" is great too!
Discovered this cop show from the late 60's the other day. Starred Jack Warden. Only saw a clip but wondered if it was any good & if so, any chance of a DVD release? Wasn't sure if it might be so far off the radar that DVD wasn't a possibility. Love shows from the 60's & 70's!!
I'll just stick with cop shows as opposed to private detective shows. I love Mannix & Remington Steele but they won't be on this list.
Kojak
Hawaii Five-O
Adam-12
Police Story
Streets of San Francisco
Dragnet
Starsky & Hutch
The Rookies
Police Woman
Miami Vice
I blew Adam-12 off as hokey when...
I'm in the middle of season 2. Really loving it! However, I originally started with season 4 & loved it so much I went back & bought season 2. I realized today, as much as I'm enjoying season 2, I liked 4 better! I've heard people comment that the series got better over time so this was a...
Just picked up season 1 of Medical Center this week. Such a good show! One question. Some disks have 5 episodes rather than 4. Does that effect the quality? I've only glanced at the disks. Just wanted a knowledgeable opinion about it. One ep seemed grainier than the 4 ep disks. Maybe it was...
I just bought a volume the other day. Way before my time but I saw a few episodes yrs ago & enjoyed it. Pretty good show! Still watching but the set but I like it so far.
I can understand if circumstances are behind their control but I hate when some seasons are restored & others aren't. Makes me appreciate when quality is maintained throughout a series. I'll pick up one of the earlier seasons. A friend of mind who's in his 20's(!!) loves "Emergency!" & so...
I maybe caught an episode when I was a kid. Do remember related toys. Somehow I missed this show & would like to pic up a season. I've read the video isn't great though. Most of the shows I've bought have been very good. "Mannix" , "Streets of San Francisco", "Hawaii Five-O", all good. How is...
All I know is I only have two seasons on DVD. That means I have six to look forward to!!! I started with season 4, got so hooked & watched so many episodes that I put it aside & bought season 2!!! I'm going through it now. I'll pick up season 1 at some point.
The season 8 box cover is what I...
Actually, Chad Everett's wife Shelby passed away last year. I was very surprised his passing didn't receive more coverage. Looking forward to MC season 2!!
So i'll probably buy this as well as 87th Precinct. Anyone have an opinion as to which I should purchase first? Never seen either but both look good. I'm a big fan of things like Dragnet & film noirs like "He Walked by Night ." Just wondered if one was clearly more highly recommended.
I've never the show but I'm really in an old cop show mood. I'll probably pick this up since the other DVDs are out of print & pricey. Why aren't there season sets? Again I know very little here. It just looks really good!!
Not familiar with 87th at all but I'm a sucker for old cop shows! Having been born in the 70's, I'm more familiar with those shows. I'm anxious to try something earlier. Curious to see reviews.
Have to echo the thoughts about the quality of the Dragnet radio program. Amazing stuff & a few...
That's interesting. The running across the bridge I can understand but twirling the girl is really odd. How did they come up with that when the credits were being made?? "Hey how about we have Mannix twirl a girl outside!" Great intro though!
I'm still working my way through this thread. I've been enjoying watching "Mannix" so much after not seeing the show since the 70's, I bought season last week! I started in the middle with season 4. I'm putting it aside so I can watch in some sort of order.
Anyway, anyone know where the...
When I was becoming reacquainted with Mannix, I read a lot of reviews. This one on Dvdtalk has some of the type of images that would have made nice box covers! A few action oriented & a few laid back pics.

With regards to the DVD cover art, I saw an alternate cover for season two. I believe it was an early version. Mannix is kneeling with his gun drawn. Just curious as to why that wasn't used. Most of the covers have Mannix with a fairly stressed look on his face. Not a look that really defines...
I can't knock Shout! much since they released Adam-12, Dragnet,Kojak, & Police Story among others. I am surprised that the Rookies season 2 doesn't contain the pilot!! And I'm pretty late to this forum but is that really the best version Room 222 we can get??
