I, of course, have not yet received my pre-ordered copy of Godspell yet, but I can only hope that your assessment of it's video and audio is as incredibly WRONG as your thoughts on the Production. I have rarely read a review of a movie that had as many comments that were just flat-out untrue...
Ragtime on blu-ray was always at the top of my wish list (except for, maybe, The Abyss) and it was the French who provided it for me - first the Statue of Liberty and now this. It is a gorgeous package and the picture and sound is everything you could ask for in a blu-ray.
Now, if they can...
There is no alternate or additional material in the "European Cut" or, what was endorsed by Kubrick as, the "official version". But, this brings up something that has always bugged me. I have both cuts on blu-ray, and the opening and closing credits on the truncated version includes the names...
Uh, unless it's a joke (which I would never rule out) its "THE River's Edge" (the film being released on TT), not "River's Edge" (the film depicted in the picture that heads up this thread).
If intentionally mistaking Abba for Sha Na Na is truly RAHs idea of "dry humor" then, as much as I respect his opinions on which Blu-rays have the best video and audio quality, I don't think I'd seek his opinion on who or what is funny.
"as this is possibly the best of his movies during his post Evil Dead and pre Spider-Man period."
I take issue with that statement, as "A Simple Plan" is, I believe, easily the best of his movies during that period (or, probably, any period) of Raimi's career.
There appears to be a discrepancy in the article, which states "The actor was born in Surrey in 1931".
If that statement is true she wasn't 90 when she died.
I guess Mr. Walker was known primarily for his TV work, but to me he'll always be "Posey", one hell of a name for a guy like him (to paraphrase Lee Marvin in "The Dirty Dozen".
I'm a bit surprised that this has yet to be mentioned on this forum, but the disc, and the disc case, both state that Hell or High Water 4K has Dolby Atmos audio, and THAT was the main reason for me to upgrade from the blu-ray. The fact that there is NO Dolby Atmos is certainly a good reason to...
Here's hoping Auto Focus is the unrated version, with the video on the TV WITHOUT the blurring, which was required in order for it to get an "R" rating. Any word on that?
I was born and raised in Philadelphia and, as a movie lover, some of my favorite memories were going downtown to see a film (in those days that was about the only way you could see a first-run movie) at one of the many movie palaces (The Boyd Theater, The Fox Theater, etc.)
Just for the sake of...
I really hate to nit-pick (well, that's probably not true...I kind of do like to nit-pick, obviously), but Jack Lemmon is channel surfing WHILE he eats his frozen dinner, not after,
i agree that it is indeed a terrific commentary. The one thing that has always stuck out in my mind about that commentary is the slight but apparent annoyance displayed by Cannon and Gould when the subject of their ex-spouses come up. Dyan Cannon at one point mentions Barbra Streisand to...
The outpouring of support of Elmer Gantry on HTF (all 2 or 3 of you) has changed my mind...now I know that it is universally loved, admired and imitated...or....whatever. I bow to the masses.
I understand that each of those 4 other nominees may have fans but, c'mon, I can't believe that there are good, let alone great, arguments that "The Alamo" should have won Best Picture. THAT is a stretch.
And I'd give odds of 100-1 that there are more than a handful of people that have even...
True, although I think it does say something that, 57 years later, The Apartment is still considered (by a great many) to be a classic (e.g., #80 on the latest AFI Top 100), and Elmer Gantry has pretty much faded into obscurity.
Is that so? Please, tell me which of these landmark classics that were also nominated for Best Picture in 1960 was more worthy of the award:
The Alamo
Sons and Lovers
The Sundowners
Elmer Gantry
The Apartment is a great film and well deserving of the Oscar for Best Picture of 1960, but even...
I purchased Billy Lynn solely on the recommendation of Robert Harris. I knew from reviews that it wasn't going to be a very good movie (or, possibly, it was going to be a bad movie - which it was) but, based on Mr. Harris' review of the technical aspects of the release, I was more than willing...
For my part, streaming has 2, and only 2, advantages over physical media:
1. The ability to view my movies on several televisions throughout my home without having to insert a disc in a player that is not connected anyway. About 150 of my over 1000 movies on disc are available to me through...
