Alpine DIY Subwoofer Build for HT

Already engaged. The box will be based with steel putty, sanded, primed, sanded, primed, sanded, given 4-5 coats of pearl black car paint, clear laquered and then buffed with paint cutting cream and finally polished to mirror like finish. I don't want to go to this length on sealed design, at...

Alpine DIY Subwoofer Build for HT

Late update I changed the idea of ported and went the easy route with 3.6 cu ft net sealed box (0.58 Qtc) for the final build. Used 24mm mdf all around with double front baffles for flush mount. Box is completed except for the final paint job. Got it made at home from a carpenter friend. Here...

I can get only the 12 and 10 inchers in Ultimax series. 15 inch is not available on amazon. So, what do you reckon now ..... 2 Dayton Ultimax 12" OR 2 Dayton Audio RSS460HO-4 18"??? OR even on individual head to head comparison, which will offer deeper and louder output?? thanks

RE Audio Subwoofer for Sacry DIY Project

I have and their subs are fantastic on paper, but unfortunately I cannot have them shipped here. In fact, we have an online retailer here in Pakistan who does direct business with Amazon. Anything that's there on amazon can be procured on the doorstep by this retailer within 2 weeks. So, Dayton...

RE Audio Subwoofer for Sacry DIY Project

Hi Robert.....I did away with the idea of RE audio subs. Been going through different DIY projects and it seems Dayton Audio wins hands down in price/performance area. Have you had any experience with any of the following drivers? - Dayton Audio RSS460HO-4 18" Reference HO Subwoofer 4 ohm -...

RE Audio Subwoofer for Sacry DIY Project

I know sealed is the simplest of all designs, but the ouput drops off way too early. You also run sealed subs. Do you apply eq below 40Hz to raise the low end? If you do apply eq, how much gain do you set in that region??

RE Audio Subwoofer for Sacry DIY Project

So what does it translate to in my case? Is it good or bad?? Dont mind my ignorance. 66" is absurdly long port. When I reduce port dia, I do get shorter length but the port velocity hits the roof and tuning also rises. How to resolve this issue?

RE Audio Subwoofer for Sacry DIY Project

Is there any chance I can tune my current DIY sub lower to 20Hz keeping the box size same? Currently it is tuned to 25Hz with 82L net volume having 4.38" Dia and 18" long round port. I am attaching the response taken with REW and SPL meter at an inch from the center of the sub cone; Is the...

RE Audio Subwoofer for Sacry DIY Project

I meant 2 subs in one box. As regards subs located in multiple places.....I am already using 2 and thinking of adding a third one. Bass is never enough.:)

RE Audio Subwoofer for Sacry DIY Project

Hey Robert yes I completely misunderstood you. Anyway I never meant any offense to anyone esp to you coz I've learned a lot from you. So pardon me if it sounded otherwise. Anyway you recommended Type X 15, but alpine does not have 15" in type x or at least it's not mentioned on their website...

RE Audio Subwoofer for Sacry DIY Project

So could you pls advise on which model to go for? The objective is to crush PB13 ultra just out of rage coz it will cost me more than double its price. Listening to Alpine DIY, I think it is easily achieveable with some better spec sub. So, pls narrow down on top 2 picks from RE. The amp is...

RE Audio Subwoofer for Sacry DIY Project

I was asking purely from performance stand point. Objective is flat response to bare minimum 20Hz and matching or preferably exceeding the performance of PB13 Ultra.

RE Audio Subwoofer for Sacry DIY Project

I am starting a new DIY sub project for a friend. This would be my second DIY project. The first one (Alpine SWR-1223D) was greatly assisted by Robert, many thanks to him. I tested that sub (tuned @ 25Hz) in my friend's theater room (21x16x12) and it crushed his Def Tech SCRef in every manner in...

    No Sound From My Subwoofer

You don't need y-adapter. AVR feeds mono signal to the sub. Feeding both inputs gives you 3-5 dB of extra gain. Without the y cable, any input will work on the back of your sub. To get bass from the sub, your reciever needs to be in any mode but the Pure Direct. Even if you have set your mains...

    Newbie setting up klipsch system

For $200, I reckon you should look at some good used receivers on ebay. For the remaining $700, you can get HSU VTF-3 MK4 Subwoofer. If you corner load it; it can pressurise the listening area considerably if you do not go nuts with the volume dial. You can also look at other ID big boys in that...

    Newbie setting up klipsch system

$1400-1800 for the entire system and expecting earth shattering bass is being a bit too optimistic. Also, I don't think HSU STF-2 @ 200 watts rms can pressurise room your size and can offer the kind of bass you are looking for. I reckon you raise your sub budget a bit. Also, If you want more...

    Newbie setting up klipsch system

Can you specify the room layout I mean things like carpeted/wooden/hard floors, windows, curtains, the actual useable width of the wall that will be used as the main staging area (screen, front left/right/center speakers), seating arrangement, etc??? Also, what is your objective for HT....music...

    LFE Question

I already went through this article a long time ago. Anyway, I didn't get it when you say clipping is nothing to do with digital level. What is the point of signal processing and reference listening then?? Some movies do kick the bass into red clipping zone on BFD at -10dBFS on master volume.
  22. BraveHeart123

    LFE Question

Can somebody answer as to how BFD handles LFE signal. 0dBFS is 105dB peak, but that is for the mains. How does BFD handle LFE signal that is 115dB when speakers are playing Peaks at 105dB? Going by the book, it should clip anything hotter than 105dB max. But actually it should not or it will...

    LFE Question

Just watched different scenes from Battle LA. You r right, it has some of the best and most realistic LFE mix in it. Um running dual stacked subs that dig only till 22hz. The business area in this movie is mostly below 30Hz and a lot many times i think it plummets way below 20Hz. I guess I'd...

    LFE Question

its odd coz mine is at -3 and FL and FR are at 00 on avr. I manage to hard-hit the clipping lights on BFD at reference volume on some movies e.g. first car explosion scene in Killer Elite. What are your mains (FR/FL) set at on the level trims?

    LFE Question

Hi Robert, if you are getting only the first green bar lit on BFD then you are at -40dBFS (65dB SPL). I assume, then, u must be dialing your ep2500 way way way up to get upto 115dB on LFE when your mains are hitting the full scale reference peaks of 105dB. Can you pls tell as to where your...

    LFE Question

Can anyone list some movies that have strict compliance to movie recording levels especially the LFE part? Some movies, e.g. Taken-1 has exeggerated LFE and I don't think it conforms to the loudness standards. The gunshots, though, sound great but are unreal. One more thing.....0dBFS means 105dB...

    Behringer 1000 dsp hookup/mod question

For Berry to DIY Sub Hookup It's easy. Um using 4-pole speakon connectors for hookup for the only reason that only 4-pole plug was available. You can use either 4-pole or 2-pole. They are much the same. If you use 4-pole plugs, you can use any of the two sets labelled (1+, 1-) or (2+,2-). 2...

    SPL calibration confusion!

You are right about the sub roll off even if all the speakers are unhooked. But this roll off is near the xo whatever you choose it to be. The avr applies that sub frequency curve, which is always sloping near the crossover point. That is purposely done in the AVRs for seemless blending or you...

    SPL calibration confusion!

When we say "Mains", we are talking about Front Left and Front Right. Whatever the nomenclature, you cannot disable the Front Left and Front Right speakers. That is the bare minimum you can have in any system; hence the large and small setting for the mains. Get this thing right......no matter...
