I just ordered the Sony MOD of "American Madness." I haven't ordered any MOD titles previously, but since I already have the other films in the Frank Capra Premiere Collection, it was easier to justify a single disc purchase than the whole set. (Plus I was able to find it for $16.37 -...
Good to know. I don't own any other copy to compare it to, but I have seen 3 or 4 previous prints (borrowed, downloaded, on TV), and I can say this is the best of the ones I've seen. I watched the Capra featurette and enjoyed it. Nothing groundbreaking, but a nice overview of his career.
I received my copy last night. I haven't gotten to watch it all the way through, but I flipped through it a little. It's not perfect, but it is the best looking copy I've seen to date. I also listened to the commentary for a couple minutes. I like the inclusion of comments from Capra...
I ordered this along with the repackaged Arsenic and Old Lace. This one has already shipped, so I guess the move to December 15 wasn't entirely accurate. Has anyone gotten a look at the disc yet? Edit: According to the first review on the Amazon page, it sounds like this will definitely be...
The ClassicFlix blog just announced the release of the Meet John Doe 70th Anniversary DVD has been pushed back to mid-December due to "problems in the manufacturing process."
Our oldest child was 2 when the first Toy Story came out. When we got the video he watched it almost everyday, as many times as we'd let him. Now he's almost 17 and we have 3 other children, ages 5-9. All 4 of them loved Toy Story 3. We got rid of our VHS tapes a while back and haven't...
I will always choose the physical media over a download or stream. I don't want to read books or comics on my computer screen, nor do I want to watch movies on it. That said, I am choosy in what I buy. I rarely make blind buys of anything anymore. Someone in my house is going to have to want...
This article states this release is colorized, and I just noticed the Amazon listing says color also. Anyone know if that's that true? If it is, I'll have to pass on this one. http://www.suite101.com/content/best-classic-comedy-movie-dvd-releases-for-november-2010-a297103
My collection is small, so deciding what to watch just depends on the audience. Is it just me (old b&w movies or classic characters like the Lone Ranger or Sherlock Holmes), my wife and I ('80s films, comedies, or 'chick flicks'), or the whole family (Pixar, Disney animation, "kiddie" movies)...

Well, at least it will be more readily available again. I think they could've chosen better cover art, though. Between this and the "Meet John Doe" 70th Anniversary Edition, I should have all my favorite Capra movies by Christmas, as those are the two glaring omissions in my collection.
Amazon.com is listing Frank Capra's "Arsenic and Old Lace" as a pre-order for Nov 9. No other details are available. I can't find any information anywhere else. Does anyone know anything about it? I don't own it yet, so I wonder if it will have any new bonus material (but I kind of doubt...
I have really enjoyed every Frank Capra film I've seen, but there are so many I have yet to watch. Of those I have seen, I'd rank them like this:
1. It's a Wonderful Life (1946) *****
2. It Happened One Night (1934) *****
3. Meet John Doe (1941) *****
4. Mr. Deeds Goes to Town...
I'm looking forward to this. I love Capra movies and "Meet John Doe" is one of my top favorites. I've been holding out for a decent DVD release that wouldn't cost an arm and a leg.
