I read the thread overall regarding the release. Very little new about this. They are using dated 7 year old masters for epiodes 4-6 with minimal tweaks in terms of PQ. Lucasfilm states the masters were very ahead of thier time when done and bull$h!+! They were HD masters for dvd in 2004 that...
You are wrong on that Robert. It is Technicolor. It is written in big bold red print on the bluray 1 minute 10 seconds into the playing time. IMDB confirms this, not that it is needed when stated in the credits. I don't know where to begin with this one. I just picked up An American in Paris...
How much CGI was actually done for the film? How many minutes does it encompass? Can the effects shotsa simply be upconverted to 4K? From what I have read the scans done in HD for the 2004 dvd's were from the OCN of the SE's. The new effects shots were simply transferred back to 35mm film I am...
What is the skinny on the original trilogy scans? 4K? I heard all the effects shot of the SE films were done in HD. I also read that the films were scanned in HD or 1.9K when Lowry did them. Anybody know, I predict if they do release these using the 2004 dvd masters in HD PQ is not going to stun...

They never should have waited in the first place. They should have put them out and they could have repackaged them all with the release of the new film. At this point depending on the MGM situation it would be nice to have all the OCN's rescanned at 4K and new masters made for the remaining 2K...
For the $140 msrp they should have done 4k scans of the negative and remastered all the titles. 3 and 4 look good but the price is way too high for dated 2K transfers.
Rescanning the films would have easily improved their PQ. All reviews have said they look soft in comparison to the 1st 2 films. For the $140 msrp I think 4k scans and brand new remasters of all films were warranted.
Then Lowry should easily know if it is their master on the bluray shouldn't they. The bottom line is Mr. Alvanos passed the buck! Giving the master to MGM is not going to introduce print damage not their before.
What I find extremely hard to believe is that Lowry doesn't have masters of every film they ever worked on regardless of the studio. I am not buying it. I am sure they have masters of everything they have ever done. Kept on file in the digital domain on a hard drive in thier facility. The...
Interesting, but pretty vague as to what exactly they have. I believe most of the King Kong bluray is comprised of the british dup negative they found. Already two generations away from the original camera negative which is lost and with enough film grain too prove it as each generation away...
This is what I have an extremely hard time believing, that Lowry doesn't have a digital copy of every film they ever worked on for preservation purposes. In the License to Restore documentary from Dr. No it showed how they can store a film that they mastered on hard drives in a sealed case. As...
I checked out the dvd from the library to compare to my bluray. The vertical streaks are prevelent in many scens of the movie. Numerous during the final frogman battle both parachuting and the battle underwater. There is another scene as Connery walks into the casino at 49:19 where a streak is...
I really think you are on to something here! Lowry would be the best point of contact concerning this issue. To be honest I am not buying for one second Lowry would leave dirt, blemishes, vertical lines etc. on the new 4K masters. Granted any deficiencies would be magnified by the increased...
