How far can the cable lengths be for the configuration shown in post 2? I was thinking of doing something similar but my RCA cords would have to be 25" long to go the pre-out route, I would have to make them up from typical heavy speaker wire "zip cord" already in place that runs between the two...
Well, I seemed to have fixed it. The set up screen of the Blu Ray had a Dolby, DTS and then two "Bitstream" options, one of which had the title "Bitstream Audiophile". A little Googling revealed that what that option does is send the input stream un-encoded so the receiver does the encode. I...
Just a short comment, I run Onkyo and Harman power amps together and they complement each other in a remarkable way, at least to my ear, they sound better running together than they do run standalone.
Ooooo, I like this one:

No pre-outs, not surprising, they had to cheap out somewhere.
I'd simply use the pre-outs to push seperate amps and not attach any speakers to the receiver. I am assuming a 100 watt amp section means a 100 watts divided by 7 channels, that's not much of an amp. if they are claiming 700 watts for a $300 box, well, I doubt it sounds very good in all...
I'm looking at this one on Ebay:

The power rating is low, but I would actually use it as more of a Pre-processor than an actual speaker driver, since I have separate power amps running front, center...
I have an "open concept" house, which means I have a very large living room (20x40). I've had to set up a pretty complex sound system to get the music quality I desired, with a mix of older equipment and newer stuff added for the Blu-ray/HDTV. I've managed to set up an awesome music system...
Hi, new to the forum, hoping I can get a question answered. I have picked up a nice used HK AVR 230 6.1. On the back, I have a section of outputs called "pre amp" outputs, with one set of outputs for each surround channel. I am a little confused by the name - does it mean this is a signal...
