Although I prefer the 3D for Kubo and Coraline I bought the 4K's last week and watched Coraline, which looked great on my 85" Sony.. but I must be getting old because I couldn't figure out how to get Kubo to play. There's a title name on the upper left while most of the screen is clips from the...
Isn't it true that when watching a blu-ray on a 4K TV, the TV set is up-converting the 1080p to 2160 automatically because it's the TV's native resolution? Because of this, I decided a year and 1/2 ago to stop buying 4K discs that were just up-converted from a 2K master.
At first I bought an...
Interesting that you've wondered about SAE too. I've been trying to sell them some of my soundtracks since September. I've sold to them a couple of times before, but since Sept I've emailed my list to them 4 times and even printed and mailed it to them once, but as of today, no response at all.
Exactly, since the beginning of the format when all those 2K masters were used for the 4K releases (and still are in many instances). I have stopped buying 4K's unless they are from 4K masters. And yes, I know about the advantages of HDR, but since I use projectors, the HD range is limited...
I have three blu-ray players connected in my system and all three have a different delay setting in my processor in order to get my sync test disc in sync. Even so, some movies still have sync issues built in to the mastering, and there is sometimes a sync difference between a 24 frame movie...
Finally got around to watching my copy last night (Lonely Are the Brave) as was quite annoyed to see so much of it out of sync for long stretches. Then after a long period out of sync, there would be a cut and everything would be back in for awhile. So I suspect some of the dialog reels were not...
I watched this last night and was disappointed with the lack of detail. Afterwards I watched the new "Madigan" blu-ray, also a Universal release through Kino and having been film in 2 perf Techniscope - it had far more detail than "The Far Country".
If you consider that more than half of what is passed on as 4K is actually up-converted 2K masters (which means those extra pixels are not real new information), why would anyone think that 8K is going to be ACTUAL new information either. Until the studios start making real 4K masters we won't...
In my setup, comparing the level of "Sweet Charity" after watching a couple of scenes from "Oblivion", I found about a 4db boost was needed over my usual listening level of -10 on my Marantz 8802A.
I saw two or three sections of dance numbers that I thought had questionable sync also (dancers against the music), but then after two or three cuts it seemed back in again - so I think that's probably how it always was.
Watched it yesterday and had to boost the levels 4 db from my usual setting (and could have gone a bit more), and I agree - the sub levels were wimpy overall compared to other action features.
"Celtic Pride" had a 5.1 mix and was released as two track mono on blu-ray. I sent my copy back. I won't buy anything anymore that doesn't have the original sound layout. I even have questions about original 5.1 titles that now have Atmos mixes on UHD. In almost all cases I believe it's a...
I made a quick one, using the artwork from my HD-VHS copy that may work for you, for the time being. I'd be glad to email you the jpg. Drop me a note using my name here at ATT.NET and I'll email it to you to use or not..
Watched "Cradle Will Rock" today and was happy with the picture but disappointed the sound was only Stereo. "Celtic Pride", from a few weeks ago, I sent back to Amazon when I found the sound was 2.0 mono and not the 5.1 it was mixed in. Is Disney not supply Kino with the best audio? I'll be less...
Saw the screener too and was looking forward to a better video version
. Put it on my list as soon as I learned it was a true 4K - the only 4K's I buy.
One thing not mentioned is that the majority of the 4K titles are up-rezzed from 2K masters. I don't have a "real" 4K projector (mine is the Epson laser pixel-shifting type) but the difference between a 2k mastered UHD disc and a blu-ray played utilizing the pixel-shifting option is not...
Watched "Forever Amber" last night and found it rather dark. I ended up boosting my brightness up a few notches for this title in order to see some detail in the darker areas. Still didn't correct things properly but it was more watchable for me.
I have 293 3D titles. About two months ago I bought an all-region blu-ray player so I could get the titles released overseas as well - hence "The Mummy", "Seventh Son", "Terminator 2", "Ratatouille", "Universal Soldier Day of Reckoning", "Valerian" etc. I'm a die-hard 3D fan and am disgusted at...
Does anyone know if the HDR issue has caused a recall? Amazon still doesn't have the first film available or even listed in 4K. I have 2-4 in 4K but trying to find #1.
Just returned my copy of this to Amazon. There seems to be a mastering error in that the insert and the menu offer DTS 5.1 audio, but the disc only has 3 DTS 2.0 tracks. Two DTS 2.0 movie sound tracks and a 2.0 commentary track. Somebody forgot to put the 5.1 on the disc.
Dialogue was somewhat buried at times at the Academy Theater where I saw it too. No purchase for me. I'm one of the apparently outnumbered people who thought the film overrated and way overblown (musically).
