I have tried changing ports, bracing and other things and I still cant get this sub to sound the way I want it. I am thinking of trying a transmission line enclosure for something different. I realize this is going to be huge and very complicated, I have approx 52 cubic feet of space that I...
I completely agree with you. I also like my system to sound as close as possible to original, all I'm trying to do is point out how to make the best of the situation at hand which in this case involves two very high volume SPL subs that will likely never play anywhere close to the original...
I personally would go the Emotiva route. I haven't had the pleasure of listening to any of them but they look like they are built with quality that far surpasses marantz, denon, ect.
I will have to try that one, I wouldn't mind modeling my subwoofer just to see the difference between it and WIN ISD Pro. Anyway I would still use the MTX woofers even if they are not ideal. some people want nice even sound, while others want subs that sound like there going to jump out of...
I agree with Robert on the DIY sub if you have the tools, I built the enclosure for my RCF 21" woofer and saved a ton of money and there really aren't any store bought items that can beat it. If you are looking for the best sound performance for your speakers try finding some nice separate amps...
No sorry I didnt, I am fairly new to WIN ISD Pro, just thought it might help. My point is that even though they are massive SPL subs, using them is better than having no subs at all. Thats my opinion anyway.
I'm assuming these are 12"? If so I got the parameters off of MTX's website and it looks like with two 4" ports 15" long in a 6 cubic foot box tuned to 25HZ you have flat response to about 23HZ. Not the best home theater sub on earth but would probably be indestructible and insanely loud.
Well I have been watching some of my movies over again now that I have the new Integra. I really never believed that the new surround sound formats sounded so much better, but WOW, what an amazing difference! Even Jurassic Park was like a brand new experience. I am going to watch some more...
I guess I really shouldn't talk, I use a small pair of B&W 601's for my mains and they are enough to make you go deaf. Size doesn't always determine volume capability I guess.
Finally........ Here is a pic of my brand spankin new Onkyo Integra DTR 6.8 reciever. I am using it as my new surround sound processor. This thing stomps all over my Shure processor.
Re tuned my subwoofer port last night, now tuned to 19Hz. I was having issues with the driver becoming very nonlinear and unstable at very high volumes. I believe the problem lies in the box being ported to far below resonance (originally ported at about 12 Hz). Anyway here are some pics...
I would also add a sub. I would bet that it would really bring your theater to life. I run an RCF 21" subwoofer and love it, very reasonable price to. By the way I lave those Altecs, always heard great things about horns.
WOW that looks absolutely stunning especially those IB subs. I would love to do an infinite baffle set up but don't have the room. Love those front speakers
Ya your right and I am going to move it. I will post pics of the new integra and where the Crown is moved to once i can get hold of a camera. I had to move most of the amps around to fit the new receiver, it takes up allot of room.
Well I think I have found a pre amp that I like. A came across a slightly used Onkyo Integra DTR-6.8, I like the looks of it allot. I am thinking of picking it up this weekend, I will post pics once its in place.
Yes I would imagine that sitting on an angle does somewhat affect the sound, but those B&W speakers have excellent dispersion so they image very well sitting almost anywhere. I'm thinking of getting the mains up on stands to, I think that might also help.
Infinite baffle would not work with this sub, its free air resonance is not near low enough . Infinite baffle is usually best done with drivers that are designed to work in that arrangement.
We watched transformers the other night and people upstairs had to hold onto there drinks so they...
Ya, sometime maybe when I have some spare cash I might try to find a nice used Onkyo Integra or maybe a Denon if I can find a good one. It would probly make a very big differance.
Heres my setup now posted in the right place anyway................
just looking for some advise, if I can change or improve anything. Any suggestions are welcome good or bad. Here's some pics of my system, let me know what you think.

If your going to model it try modeling it with 17.5 cubic foot box and one 6" port 23" long ran off of a briged Crown XLS 602, that's what its in right now and it seems to work really good, but if you have some other ideas I would really love to know!
So far this driver has been nothing but awesome even at the very lowest stuff Ive hit it with (haven't tried black hawk down yet) but it has never failed me yet, even with the 1600 RMS I run it on . Also when i bought this I didn't know the Maelstrom 21 even existed and given a massive enough...
Well from what you guys are saying, I really cant go wrong by bracing it so i will see what I can do. At least it will be a fairly easy job considering that the box is almost big enough to stand in. I will post some pics of the bracing job when its done. This woofer is shaping up to be...
Hi I am looking for a subwoofer EQ. Right now I am running 4 Denon 12" subwoofers in aprox 2 cubic foot sealed boxes (one in each corner) powered off of a behringer EP1500 and a RCF 21" subwoofer located in the attached furnace room in a 12hz tuned 17 cubic foot box ran by a crown XLS 602. I...
