you can buy really cheap turntables with usb ports and software for convertind vinyl to mp3 etc . this could be a budget solution i think you can copy from vinyl to flash or hd . i was given one of these they look junky but should work they have editing software too .

try some music with a lot of high pitch like saxaphone and see how the cvs sound they may be slightly harsh on the high notes . i find mine a bit much after about say 2 movies and a few cds this is noticable if im by myself relaxing .

if youre living space is open plan avoid sound bars they work but only in a confined room .
this was advice given to me by a freind who used to be a salesman at a big department store .
he also said wireless speakers are not that great . he hated sound bars completely . hope this helps
id say 7.1 channel reciever would have room to grow , you can run it at 5.1 and expand it later on .
that way youve got something to improve on / add to if you feel like it.
