CAST RECORDINGS on Facebook is reporting that PAINT YOUR WAGON will be released by Kino
on 3/26, but no confirmation from Kino. Anyone know if this is correct?
What are the sources from which Kino is now drawing its releases? And as a follow up, which of the sources would include silent movies and pre-Code talkies? Obviously I'm hoping the releases this years will include such films.
At the top of the Sale Info it says "Up to 3". So I entered 3 and the code and it was accepted. But then no matter how many times I checked to make sure I had everything filled in it wouldn't accept the order. I guess they're still working out the bugs, so with any luck maybe tomorrow ...
Same problem. I tried all possible variations on Newsletter. Guess I'll wait for them to contact me. I did take down all 14 I'd listed to order, just to be safe!
Chiming in again with a wish for more of the silents that I understand have complete new scores. This would include THE FOUR HORSEMEN, THE STUDENT PRINCE IN OLD HEIDELBERG, THE CROWD, GREED, THE MERRY WIDOW and any Lon Chaney.
The 1984 production with Jason Robards as Grandpa and Colleen Dewhurst as the Grand Duchess was also filmed and aired on Great Performances. I saw it on Broadway the night Colleen made an entrance a couple scenes too soon. That didn't bother Robards. He just smiled and went on with his speech.
A few more good savings on Amazon for recent Warner Archive Blu Rays:
HELEN OF TROY 14.40
KING SOLOMON'S MINES 13.99
CHRISTOPHER STRONG 14.99 PLUS a 20% off Coupon which brings it down to 11.99!
Wow! What a great line-up. And it would appear that this leaves AROUND THE WORLD IN 80 DAYS as the only Best Picture Oscar winner not to have a Blu Ray release, yes? (There's an Australian Blu Ray of CODA.)
I watched at fuzzy DVDr of the 1930 gem THE ROYAL FAMILY OF BROADWAY last night and how I wish it could be restored and issued on Blu Ray. George Cukor directed, the sublime Ina Claire plays the part modelled on Ethel Barrymore, and Fredric March was Oscar nominated for his spot on performance...
Only one misspelling? That ain't nothin'. I picked up a VHS rip-off of THE STRANGER many years ago which had Orson Welles' name spelled three different way on the box. I think that may be something of a record!
Just a little Heads Up. The WBAC Blu Ray of HEY THERE! IT'S YOGI BEAR! is currently available on Amazon for $12.99. Low prices like these often disappear quite quickly, so best to grab a copy now if you're interested.
I'm sure this has been covered before, but I'd appreciate it if someone could explain again just what happened to the old WBAC DVD-MOD line. Like some of the other folk who've posted above, I was buying them up by the carload. It's such a pleasure having all the little known 30s and 40s films I...
Netflix says "T'ain't so, McGee!" Apparently you have to enter a lottery, and the lucky winners will get their top ten. This according to a call to Netflix.
PAINT YOUR WAGON isn't the only announcement still awaiting a release date. Others include HAS ANYBODY SEEN MY GAL, SAIGON, YOU NEVER CAN TELL, FOR WHOM THE BELL TOLLS and MURDER ON THE ORIENT EXPRESS. At least THE CARPETBAGGERS and THE LAST TYCOON now have dates.
There are a number of films announced by Kino that have no date attached. HAS ANYBODY SEEN MY GAL, PAINT YOUR WAGON, THE CARPETBAGGERS, FOR WHOM THE BELL TOLLS and THE LAST TYCOON are among them. I'm curious as to whether anyone has an idea what the hold-up might be. Not that I don't have more...
Any insider info on whether there will be the equivalent of a full Spring Into Summer Kino Sale this
month? Next month? Sometime before the Christmas Sales?
Now if we could only get a Blu Ray of Belmondo's LES MISERABLES, with English subtitles. I don't
understand why this has never been available. Til then I'll hang on to my two VHS set. Sigh ...
I see that there's a Kino Classics Sale going from now until July 5. 191 items, up to 50% off.
They pretty much all appear to be ones that have been offered at previous sales. I'll keep my
fingers crossed that a Spring Into Summer Sale is still in the works!
Looks like Amazon is trying to get ahead of the upcoming Spring Into Summer Kino Sale. Pretty much everything I have on my latest Sale List is now being offered for $12.49. Thanks, but I'll wait.
Great catch! Thank you. And scrolling through the "Amazon Recommends" under this title I also found the new KL releases RIO, MY MAN GODFREY and a couple of the newer NOIR SETS at 50% off.
IMDb indicates it's an alternative title. And the reviews there are a hoot, one reviewer calling the film a "badly- edited, poorly-dubbed mess" which is nevertheless a "must-see for seekers of the weird and delightful". I can't wait!
