Well, I guess my point is that something like 1019 could be had for under 400. But, if the 919 is more in your range, why not just buy a $20 hdmi switching box to go with it?
And if it still lies out of your budget, perhaps waiting and saving would be more worth while than taking the plunge on...
Look at the pioneer line. start with the vsx-1019 and then work your way down. I'll bet a savvy buyer could find the 1019 for about 400 bucks, if not less.
Pioneer makes really good stuff that, for their price points, are well appointed.
good luck
my new pioneer gave me a similar error message (and it turned out to be correct)... but it noted on the MCACC screen that if I check and there was no phase error in hook-up to proceed and ignore the warning.

I would have that issue with my old blu ray set-up... although my blu ray player was connected via multichannel. The problem would come if I attempted to play a DVD (BD) disk and left the AVR on multichannel... it would give some pretty unpleasant sound. If however, I switched to the optical...
I agree with you... it's weird. Especially since I had success with my previous pioneer vsx-1016's MCACC. I ran it 3 times... all times I made sure there were no ambient noises present... no footsteps, etc. Each time, it completely took out the lows and mids.
I am fairly content, however...
I ran the MCACC... which I had done the Pioneer VSX-1016 that this new unit is replacing. On the 1016, the MCACC calibration worked like a charm and I was really happy with it... but the calibration with this new, VSX-21THX, didn't have nearly the same out come. It ended up giving me a sound...
That's perfect... I needed a slap in the face.
You answered my question and it makes sense. I guess the biggest difference is that the THX Movie mode isn't necessarily trying to squeeze 7.1 out of a native 5.1 audio track.... etc.
From the way the manual reads, there are a lot of benefits...
On Pioneer Elites... can I apply the THX Movie mode to a DIRECT signal????
I was under the impression that I could add the THX Movie mode... just not any of the other processing modes.
Thanks!
Right... my comment about the multi-channel input was more to do with my current set-up... not my new 21thx.
I'll report back with the outcome. I'm pretty excited.
So if I run it direct, then the MCACC calibrations will be applied still? That's the biggest frustration with running multi-channel... it by passes everything.
By the way, when I run it in standard mode, I'll have the ability to select what processing I want? Correct?
Happy Holidays -
I just got a new Elite VSX-21THX to replace an older pioneer AVR. I wanted it so I could avoid having my blu-ray player kick out the sound via multi-channel out... I don't want my AVR's bass management and speaker settings to be by passed.
So, I have the VSX.
I am confused...
Thanks for the reply.
I have tried playing around with the settings in the BD speaker menu. They work "okay." But, in the end, I would rather have the receiver doing the bass management for the reasons I described.
I guess you confirmed my suspicion.... HDMI will work the same or (probably)...
I have a BD 390 blu ray player hooked up to an older (3 years old) Pioneer receiver via 7.1 Multichannel inputs (I have a VSX-1016). My Pioneer receiver does not have an HDMI audio input... and I opted to connect the blu ray player via the multichannel inputs because the BD player has on-board...
Gocha... so I should get an SPL... and then measure the volume levels coming from the speakers... and make adjustments on my blu-rays settings to get it as close as possible.
Thanks for you input... appreciate it.

Jason-
I don't have an SPL meter... but are there guidelines for how low the sats should be (fronts vs rears vs rear surrounds vs center)?
I think I remember reading that the rears/rear surrounds should only output about 30% of the sound of the front channels?
Any resources out there?
So, should I go into the Blu-Ray player and do the following:Set my Sub to "Yes" and "High" Set my Front surrounds and Center Channel to "Small" and sound output to "Medium"Set my Rears and Rear Surrounds to "Small" and sound output to "Low"
???
I'm a little confused about how I should go about...
Okay... so basically this means that I need to make all of my speaker settings on the set-up menu of the Blu-Ray player. My AVR is simply volume control at this point.
I guess I'm confused as to how the frequencies are divided up... Does the Blu-Ray player control the crossover for the sub? I...
I have a Pioneer VSX-1016TXV AVR with a 7.1 Speaker set-up. My AVR controls the crossover function. Recently I purchased a LG BD390 Blu Ray Player. This receiver can decode and output the latest 7.1 codecs (is that the right word?)... so I have the blu-ray player hooked up to my receiver using 8...
I just got a blu-ray and realize that the majority of movies are in 2.40:1. I have a Pioneer PDP-5070. Most all of the high def material I've watched thus far has come from HD premium movie channels... not presented in 2.40:1. So, how careful do I need to be about black bars above and below the...
Next time before you buy wire... check out monoprice.com. Great place to buy speaker wire and cables. It's quality stuff, IMO.
Not sure why the sub burned... perhaps you had the volume on the sub itself cranked to max? You probably want to keep it around 50%.
There are decent prices right...
Just an update... so some things have happened on my end with the set-up. First off, I successfully ran wires in walls to complete a 7.1 set-up. The new rear-surrounds are really cool and add a great dimension. Unfortunately, my now "rears" are probably more to the side of the room than they...
You know, I'm not familiar with Audyssey.... here's a link to Pioneer's explanation of their MCACC program:

If you are curious, check-it out. In the meantime, I have some playing to do. I'll let you all know how...
would the sweeplin.zip sound file on this site do the trick (first file under sine sweeps)... or perhaps the 3stepoct file below it?
http://www.dogstar.dantimax.dk/testwavs/
Well... I guess my option is to try it out. I like the speaker set-up, itself... it's just fine for our needs... I just wanted something that could handle the lows a bit better and not get distorted. But in general, the I like sound.
Not really sure what my options would be... get another...
Hello All,
I recently purchased an Energy S10.3 to replace a stock sub that came with a surround package (Polk Audio RM6750) that have. The frequency responses for the satellite speakers and center channels are: 100Hz-24kHz. The frequency response for the old Polk Audio sub was 40Hz-200Hz.
I...
