do I need blue-ray and full HD tv

The answer is YES, you will benefit from a blu-ray player, but no you wont benefit from 1080P. Blu-Rays make the most of your PQ potential. Blu-Ray picture has optimal use of color contrasts. Full HD (1080P) has more to do with resolution. I like the rule of 2 mentioned earlier. To benefit...

Pioneer quitting Plasma TVs, going out of business?

This is a great example of the bias people have for Pioneer. I don't care if "professional" reviewers think Panasonic is "two generations behind" if 'typical consumer so it's "almost as good"'. The vast majority of sets are bought by "typical consumers". And few, if any, seem to notice...

    Samsung vs. Sony

Sony is a very nice brand, but they just dont offer the same PQ that Samsung gives you. Bang-for-Buck no one beats Samsung!

Was thinking of 1080p, but would 720 suffice? Opinions please! Also laminate screen?

A great basis for making size / distance / resolution choices is "the rule of 2" if your screen is 8' wide, and you are sitting no further than 16' away, you will benefit from 1080P. That also assumes that you are such a videophile that you already appreciate the advantage of 1080 over 720.

    Help picking out new T.V.

its called the rule of 2. If you are 10ft away (120"), your ideal screen should be 60". If you buy a 52", you are less likely to notice the difference between 1080/720. But most people do not notice the difference anyway. be carefull before buying DLP's. they're just not as good. You would be...

Pioneer quitting Plasma TVs, going out of business?

its sad to see such a paragon of quality go. but, on the other hand, Plasmas are on the wane. before the bashing begins, I love plasma. but they wont be able to compare with these Samsung OLED's Showcased at CES 2009, Samsung expects them to be consumer ready by 2010!

    Pioneer ending TV production

Fear not, Pioneer's demise will be followed by a very strong panasonic and samsung. Panasonic was already producing panels with blacks and whites almost as good as Pioneer. Now samsung has produced this beautiful OLED Pioneer was breaking the bank in R&D. They couldnt sustain the...

Image retention/burn in using plasma as computer monitor

Image Retention and Burn-In are always concerns, but much less with today's top-tiers. I always recomend LCD's for new buyers. Plasmas are much heavier (glass panel) and do have some maintanance issues. Most importantly, the quality difference between a high-end LCD and a high-end Plasma is...

Pioneer quitting Plasma TVs, going out of business?

Yes, Pioneer leaving the industry was a shocking. But it makes sense, and I'm not sure the consumer will suffer. If you compare side-by-side Pioneer Kuro with Panasonic Plasmas, you find that Panasonic was already very close. Panasonic was already working with Pioneer on producing Plasma...

    Rise of Panasonic or Samsung?

The Pioneer collapse is already old news. Even before Pioneer decided to stop their R&D express, Panasonic Panels looked almost as good in side-by-side blu-ray comparisons. Pioneer and Panasonic have a partnership building plasma panels, so common speculatulation has Panasonic rising as...
