Yes I did. I got a DMM and tried everything out. I too assumed that third wire is a sensor for the Velo amp to correct cone movement. That is, I did after reading more in depth about Velo subs . Either way, I hooked this puppy up and it sounds very, very nice.

There are three connections coming off the sub. The two tied together show a 5.3 load on the DMM. The other one does nothing. I have no idea what that one does.

I wanted to hook this sub up to a standard amp, but not only do I not know the voice coil config, but I have no idea how this is wired. It looks like a dual voice coil. In the last image, there is a hole next to that black wire where I assume a power wire would come out. Could anyone help me...
