You don't have to feel bad about a thing you said about MGM. They've actually had the DVD rights to all three Hammer films that we're talking about for years, but just sat on them, even after doing new transfers on at least two of them. The rights recently went to Granada, and I imagine that's...
Let's hope that these and others get licensed to the Shout! Factory as it has been rumored as such according to the guy trying to get The Video Dead out on DVD.
It is incredible, just incredible that MGM's Hammer Horror films haven't been released yet. I mean, VAMPIRE CIRCUS and TWINS OF EVIL...Vampires! HELLO!!!!
I just found this great news over at DVD Drive-In :
In April, Shout! Factory will commence a new series of DVD releases under the banner, “Roger Corman’s Cult Classics”, presenting classic titles from the New World Pictures film library. The first of these releases will be Barbara Peters'...
My worst fear here is that whatever happens, the AIP and other classic vault titles will remain unreleased, yet someone will give the ok for MGM to continue production on something called "Hot Tub Time Machine." Life is not fair.
With MGM and its vast film library up for sale, hopefully we won't have to wait another two years to see any of their catalog titles on DVD. Here's a few of my wants, if anyone's looking:
ANGEL, ANGEL DOWN WE GO
THE BED SITTING ROOM
BLACK SABBATH
THE BLACK SLEEP
BLOOD AND LACE
BLOOD BATH
BOBBIE...
MGM has a lot of new and some HD transfers (check out the MGM HD Channel's Halloween schedule, though you might want to cry for what's being shown that's not out on DVD) of older cult films ready to go. If Warner was to take over, let's hope that they'd still let MGM function as it's own unit...
I've noticed that Shout Factory is releasing a number of MGM owned television series. Fingers crossed that they license some their movies to them, or that they might pick up the Midnite Movies line.
Here's MGM's entire so-called Halloween promotion, and it's quite pathetic, especially if you mostly  like movies made before 1990 like I do: CHILD'S PLAY BLU-RAY & DVD COMBO Release Date: 9/15/2009 HANNIBAL LECTER BLU-RAY ANTHOLOGY Release Date: 9/15/2009 MISERY BLU-RAY & DVD...
I totally agree! If MGM or Fox or whoever is really in control of this wonderful library is worried about what the brilliant retail heads at Walmart and Best Buy will take, forget that and just sell them on the net. I'm sure sites like Amazon and Movies Unlimited would be more than receptive to...
I hope MGM reads these posts, just so they can see the plight of the fan and know how wasteful it is to just remaster films in HD just for cable channels many of us don't get. I want to own these films MGM! On DVD, blu-ray, whatever, just release them already!!!
I really hope so... right now MGM's dvd release schedule is about as dry as the Sahara, and no indications that things will get back on track. Still, I'll never give up hope on the rest of their film library being released some time in the future.
I saw that MGM's catalog titles for June and July are: And I suspect as George warned us and despite our cries for some Midnite Movies and other horror gems for Halloween, we're going to get: O
That's a good thing, otherwise we'd never see any of those titles released. I wonder if MGM has BILLY THE KID VS. DRACULA, another fun schlock drive-in title, the kind they should be releasing on DVD.
It's the principal of the thing is more the reason why I stated I live the US. I do have a handful of foreign dvds, but I like what MGM does with these titles (when they actually release such titles) and they often look a lot better than their foreign counterparts. So those Hammer films will...
Yes MGM needs to release their Hammer films on dvd here or please just license them out to another company already. I don't care if they were out in England, I live in the U.S. And sometimes they don't always get things right there. I believe the Anchor Bay pal release of BLOOD ON SATANS CLAW is...
Exactly, and how can we take seriously their cries of "poor sales" when they badly market titles or come up with a list like that. Agreed that THE MUSIC LOVERS is a great film that needs to be on DVD; I voted for it.
Fox seems to have pretty much turned its back on catalog titles on DVD, except for a few titles that were already in production like Lang's MANHUNT. Doesn't look good.
MGM has no catalog titles coming out in June (unless they announce some at the last minute) so the reality of all this horrible news is really settling in.
Believe me, I in no way meant to shortchange the movie, and I'm glad it's out on DVD as it should be. I was just trying to make a point rather, that if they they were still releasing old films of different genres, they could at least thow us a few bones at Halloween time as horror is known to...
I can think of: THE INCREDIBLE MELTING MAN MASTER OF THE WORLD BURN WITCH BURN QUATERMASS XPERIMENT BRAIN THAT WOULDN'T DIE PHANTOM PLANET JESSER JAMES MEETS FRANKENSTEIN'S DAUGHTER I know some of these are DVD public domain labels.
I don't totally buy it either especially if MGM can still release A SONG IS BORN or IT'S A PLEASURE. Do they really think these will sell better than QUATERMASS XPERIMENT, MELTING MAN, or VAMPIRE CIRCUS?
Since Fox is letting MGM release a handful of old westerns in May, as well as some MGM owned musicals in April, I guess they don't have any faith in their old horror films since once again they have nothing planned for Halloween in terms of classic horror. You would think they could at least...
What gets me is that companies like Code Red, Severin, Synapse ect release a number of cult movies, many of them even more lower tier (in terms of being heard of) than some of the more obscure AIP stuff MGM owns. So why don't they license them out? I can just imagine what a company like Code Red...
 I can't believe for the second year in a row that we can expect nothing from MGM. How is this possible? Does this company read this forum and how about a chat with them, or are they that much in the crapper. I wan't more midnite movies damnit!
I read that MGM will be releasing The Goldwyn Follies (1938), It's A Pleasure (1945), and A Song Is Born (1948) on DVD on April 4. I'm hoping this is a good sign, as it seems a long time since MGM released any old library title that wasn't a James Bond or a Pink Panther entry.
