    SONY Archive : MOD Titles

Judging by the few responses I got here to my dilemma, I’m assuming it was not of great interest so I will briefly update the situation and then bow out of this thread. I got bounced around from one SONY corporate entity to another in trying to get some answers regarding the defective SONY MOD...

    SONY Archive : MOD Titles

These certainly appear to be originals, though I know the packaging of bootlegs from China can look nearly identical to originals, so that may not be any indication. However, I'm skeptical that anyone could profit from boots of these particular movies. Boots could definitely explain why they...

    SONY Archive : MOD Titles

Sorry, I'm a little confused by your questions. Did you miss my original post from earlier today? I am referring to commercially released MOD DVD-Rs from SONY, not retail blank discs. I do not know when these were manufactured nor what brand SONY uses for their commercial releases. As for when I...

    SONY Archive : MOD Titles

Ok, my brother ran the VSO on his computer for the five affected discs and three of them shared the same Media #. The other two also had the same Media #, but a different one from the first three. By contrast, he ran six other SONY CHOICE COLLECTION DVD-Rs that I own and have had for awhile and...

    SONY Archive : MOD Titles

Thanks to you and Randy for the helpful info. It is indeed a very perplexing situation as I haven't had too many MODs from any major studio give me trouble. There were a few, but to have five like this all in a row is really a mystery. I should have specified that none of the discs I purchased...

Warner DVD's not working thread - watch to make sure they still play

DELETED POST since issue is off topic and now being discussed in the appropriate thread. We now return you to our regularly scheduled programming, already in progress.

    SONY Archive : MOD Titles

Sorry to bump this old thread, but I wasn't sure where else to post this: i recently bought five different SONY MOD DVD-R titles and none of them will play in any of my six Blu/DVD players. I was wondering if anyone knew of a contact email address or phone number for SONY where I can report...

    Favorite Christmas Episodes

Martin, you're right. Had it not been a Christmas themed episode or at least had I not watched it during the Christmas season, I might have appreciated it more. THE UNTOUCHABLES is by and large a solid series, but I do think they could be gratuitous on occasion and the more notoriety they got...

    Favorite Christmas Episodes

Josh, this is really a nice collection of Christmas episodes from the eras you are interested in. Vintage sitcoms and 30 minute dramas with a great variety of holiday themed stories. Being a Mill Creek set of public domain material, the technical quality is not always so great, but I found most...

I'm definitely with you on both scores, Jack. I can still handle Cosby on I SPY because according to allegations it was still before any of his monstrous behavior started, but after that he's really persona non grata for me. I always wonder what Robert Culp would have thought of his good...

A bit late and on the periphery of the topic at that, but managed to watch the Thanksgiving episodes for BACHELOR FATHER (streamed) and THE BOB NEWHART SHOW (DVD). In the former, "Bentley's Double Play," S3E11, from November 26, 1959, Uncle Bentley is drafted into helping an ESL night class of...

Of course, money talks the loudest, so it's great we are purchasing this release, but I'm still going to try and write the company and personally thank them for keeping vintage TV alive on physical media. It may mean nothing to them or perhaps it will help encourage them to keep going. Whatever...

    Favorite Christmas Episodes

My Christmas TV screenings have begun with the first holiday episode of THE BOB NEWHART SHOW from the first season airing only two days before Christmas in 1972. I didn't remember it at all, so it was fun to see, but it actually was just OK. The story involved Bob's group therapy patients...

Bob, thanks for all you do in keeping this subject active and maintaining it as definitely one of the best, most enjoyable threads on any message board anywhere. It's the only thread I have ever subscribed to on any forum. It's so nice to be able to escape some of the usual conflicts and...

DVD Review The Complete PRC Michael Shayne Mystery Collection DVD Review

For me, they are just right the way they are. As someone who has worked as a film teacher and critic for decades, I naturally gravitate to B films for a refreshing change of pace and am trying to collect every single one from the poverty row studios that come out on DVD and Blu. They are like...

    International Warners Rubbish

??? Did you miss this part at the very beginning of his post? Isn't he discussing DVDs here? And isn't this specific enough? Maybe it should be transferred over to the thread that is already established for the defective Warners DVDs? Chris55 said: ↑ I've had so much disappointment over...

    International Warners Rubbish

Besides the fact that I thought this was the DVD forum on the site and not the Blu section, it seems that all the self appointed film experts here were tripping all over themselves to defend GIANT and the overall wonderfulness that is Warner Brothers. They completely ignored the above quoted...

William, what is the quality like on that release? I really want to pick it up, but it seems kind of pricey for a Mill Creek DVD, especially one that is burned.

WHV Press Release: Charlie Chan Collection

Josh thanks for your post. I actually was just coming in here to delete my last post, which was made in haste and too reactionary for my tastes. Neither of us need to engage in a message board feud, that’s for sure. I’m glad we could disagree amicably and hope my exaggerated rhetoric didn’t hurt...

WHV Press Release: Charlie Chan Collection

EDITED to remove a hasty, reactionary response that probably was destined to provoke and just perpetuate a silly debate that wouldn’t have resolved anything anyway. Suffice to say that one thing we all agree on is that the CHARLIE CHAN films are marvelous entertainment and would be fantastic on...

WHV Press Release: Charlie Chan Collection

Fox Movie Channel stopped playing these movies years ago out of fears of appearing insensitive. TCM, to my knowledge, has never shown any of the CHAN or MOTO films. Now that Disney owns Fox and are notorious for never wanting to offend anyone, I fear these movies will be out of circulation in no...

WHV Press Release: Charlie Chan Collection

Don't count on it, unfortunately. Caucasians playing Asians with today's cultural climate? I firmly believe that all these films are destined to be buried away for a long time. It's very sad, but that seems to be the reality now. Hang onto your DVDs.

Ozzie & Harriet Release From Sam Nelson?

Don't go out on a limb there with such powerful optimism. The question is, will anyone who still cares about the show be able to get Sam's dying effort before we kick the bucket ourselves?

Is the b&w era of TV on DVD slowly coming to an end?

Gary, a couple of years ago I believe I sent you a copy of the OUR MISS BROOKS Christmas show from an official VHS release that had come out back in the day. I had picked it up at a charity thrift store for a dollar. I would be interested to hear how it compares with this new CBS MOD edition...

Ozzie & Harriet Release From Sam Nelson?

The always great SCTV once did a hilarious satire of a long running sitcom entitled LOVE THAT RUSTY wherein the lead character, a troublemaker little kid named Rusty, is played by the same actor for 20 years still as a little kid no matter how much he had aged! It was brilliant. I too prefer...

    TV on DVD news roundup

Being “realistic” in this case was to refute your contention that anyone who opposes a contrary view to yours must be being negative for its own sake, something I wholly disagree with. Your overly optimistic comment states emphatically that the medium of burnt discs is not inferior. Where are...

    TV on DVD news roundup

Too soon to make this unqualified statement about BD-R. They have not been around long enough and there is no evidence to suggest they will be as reliable as DVD-Rs have largely proven to be. Not being negative for negative's sake, just being realistic.
