So...the story goes on (sigh!) : Users tell me now, that "Wizard of Oz" (2005), ""Blade Runner", "The Shawshank Redemption", "Bonnie and Clyde", "Dirty Harry" (all 2007) or some Lowry Bonds (earlier), are all said to be 4K scans, and therefore (they claim) the "Godfathers" could not have been...
@Robert Harris
Dear Mr. Harris, living in Vienna/Austria I am as well a member of a German HT discussion forum. A few days ago, there started a new talk about the picture quality of the "Deliverance" BD Disc. As usually, some guys seem to mix up "transfer quality" with the stylish desicions of...
Yes, but that was my question at the beginning. Are the DVDs really better than the BDs and especially: which ones? Only the first editions or the later ones as well? To be honest, I gave away some of them, and I am curious, if it pays off to buy them back again or to stay with the less than...
Personally I was spoiled all the time about that topic, and so it came, that I have bought the BDs, but somehow avoided to watch them (after the wacky "Snow White" experience).
What would be Your suggestion Mr. Harris? Would it be the best, trying to find the old DVD sets again? And: which ones...
I am on Your (both) sides. I'm not spending my money on bootlegs as well. In the meantime I will cuddle my DVD Set and if the pressure is too hard, watch the HDTV version. Sigh!
The HDTV broadcast looked not bad either, and there is an "obscure" BD available in Spain as well...

I suspect "80 Days" and "Raintree" are the "problematic" ones - with "80 Days" worth the investment. "Ryan's Daughter" should not be a problem. But maybe, I'm terribly wrong.
I'm getting older and older, and hoping every month for "Around The World in 80 Days" and "Ryan's Daughter". I even did not open my DVDs until now, because I could not imagine, that we have to wait THAT long...
Dear George Feltenstein, give us a sign!
You have a point, and of course I respect it... and at least evereything is subjective. For me it was easily possible to accept "Casino Royale" as well as "Skyfall" (and "Quantum" as "epilogue to CR) as a VERY well accomplished mission to bring the franchise back to their old (or even better)...
It's really funny how differently movies are anticipated. For me (and many other people I talked to) it was exactly the opposit direction. For me mostly, because "Skyfall" "referenced" to rituals and persons - with the reason to bring them gently back into the reboot - while "Spectre" most of...
That's exactly, what I felt as well - everything was awfully disjointed. There was no "flow", that made "Skyfall" (and most other Bonds) so magic for me. Besides Craig seemed in some scenes posing like "Zoolander" :). All in all "Bond by numbers", but without be really charming... The...
Sorry to say that, but even as an "all my life" Bond enthusiast "Spectre" is the worst Bond movie ever for me. I never left the movie theater before (after a "Bond" movie) with the words in my head "this one - never again!". I loved "Skyfall" as i did "Casino Royal", but for me "Spectre" did...
I want "Around The World In 80 Days". Come on WARNER - I'm getting 57 soon... If You let me wait any longer, I will not be able to follow the plot anymore :-)!
Dear Mr. Kimmel, You pushed my button once again. My WAC was 2 days on its way to Vienna, when I read Your review in Your blog. So I ordered the UK edition as well. Two on the road - both have arrived happily. Now I have both of them. Am I a lucky guy???
My "Walkabout" skips after the layer break (50') 4 minutes further and is heavily "bronzed".
"Days Of Heaven" is starting to change colour from the outer edge, but plays fine at the moment...
I live in Vienna/Austria and I think, that I will have to order new discs. Sigh!
...and as I stated above, it was the ONLY version shown in theaters here in Europe. First - soon after its premiere at Cannes - in France (where I saw it first), then during the following months all over Europe.
The shortened, chronological cut was abandoned completely here (because of Mr...
Now I want to tell "my story":
at the release time of "OUATIA" I was working for a big cinema chain here in Vienna/Austria. Because I was "nuts" about movies, and at that time most movies got their Premieres in Austria (or Germany) always months later than in other countries (because of the...
Actually the movie is from 1984...
Because of a legal action and Leone's protests the movie was shown in Europe only in its unaltered version. The "butchered" version was only to be seen in the US.
In the version I know, every "time setting" had (has) its own colour scheme. That is completely...
I had the pleasure to project this masterpiece for several months in its "first run" here in Vienna. I agree completely with Mr. Kimmel. Also for me the "old" WB BD brings (almost) perfectly back to me, what I've seen during it's initial release.
The Italian "restauration" is simply awful! The...
I support this post full heartily!!
I'm getting 56 now, and "Around the World" was my first breathtaking 70mm experience, when I was a child. I will never forget it! Boy, was I in love with Shirley...
Since then I saw it only once on a CRT TV. After that I avoided the movie, because I did not...
