Last night I screened November, an Estonian horror/fantasy movie. Amazing film! The B&W cinematography is breathtaking. Every shot is gorgeous. The film itself is based on Estonian myths and fairy tales. It's completely puzzling, but it has its own interior logic. It features witches, ghosts...
I just got the complete Goodies box from Amazon UK. The restorations are fantastic. I projected it on my ten foot screen and both the video segments and the film segments looked great. I've only watched disc 7 so far, but the Rolf Harris safari episode is there and the Jimmy Saville gags are...
If you're familiar with this film, you know how messed up it's been on home video... wrong aspect ratio, wrong speed, bad color, muffled sound, dialogue missing, fuzzy picture... just about everything that could go wrong with a film happened to this one. I just screened the brand new DVD...
I searched for info on Eddie Cantor movies on DVD, but it was just sporadic mentions in a bunch of different threads from a long time ago... So I'm creating one.
I ordered the Eddie Cantor Goldwyn Collection (Palmy Days / Kid From Spain / Roman Scandals / Strike Me Pink) along with the singles...
These are golden! I got them today from Diabolik DVD and started watching the "best of" three disk set and I was in hysterics. I can't believe the depth of the content these guys have access to. I can't imagine that some of these tapes sold more than 100 copies. Brilliant.
I know who these guys...
Yesterday afternoon, the UPS man brought me the brand new Oculus Go. I'm not a gaming person at all, and I've never had a chance to play with VR. My interest is in movies and music. I have a screening room in my home with a HD projection system, surround sound and a ten foot screen. Watching...
Power To The People: British Music Videos 1966–2016
I just got this new 6 DVD set in the mail from Amazon UK, and I've only played parts of a couple of discs 4 and 5 and I'm totally blown away. "Weekender" by Flowered Up is the Citizen Kane of rock videos and the Apex Twin videos are like...
I just got a message through my Logitech app that in March, Logitech will no longer support the Harmony Link and it will become non-functional. Gee thanks Logitech for turning my remote control into a shiny black doorstop.
Of course, they encourage me to buy the new and improved Logitech hub...
I blind bought The Frankenstein Chronicles series 1 blu-ray at Amazon Germany and I'm really enjoying it. There's a UK blu-ray too, but when I bought this, the German one was significantly cheaper. It has an instance here and there where there are unremovable subs translating writing on screen...
Yesterday I received the massive Kraftwerk 4 disc set in the mail from Amazon UK. It's pretty amazing. I've never been a huge Kraftwerk fan. Their music always seemed a little abstract to me. But in this context, it works perfectly. The videos consist of complete albums played live at art...
Great news for fans of animation... I just received the Japanese steelbook of The Films of Yuriy Norshteyn. Beautiful package. It has a nice booklet (all in Japanese but with a few nice pictures) and a set of three art cards of sketches of the characters. I haven't watched it yet, but I'll...
I've been watching these two series on blu-rays I got from Amazon UK. These series were created by Reece Shearsmith and Steve Pemberton who were behind The League of Gentlemen. They're among the most skillful writers and talented performers working today. The two principles are capable of...
I just went to the blu-ray forum and the first page didn't have a single user created thread. It was all preorder links and forum featured posts. If you want people to participate, not drowning them out with stock posts will help do that.
Oh man! I just sat down to listen to a couple of songs and got sucked in. This has got to be one of the most carefully crafted 5.1 mixes I've ever heard. The old mix had lots of "wow factor"... ping pong stuff going on, keyboards and backing vocals thrown to the rear, super sharp EQ on the...
I've got four of 88 Films' titles so far... Hex, 5 Elements Ninjas, House of Traps and Black Magic. They're all excellent. Beautiful color and sharpness, full sounding audio. First rate transfers. If you're on the fence about these, pick up 5 Elements Ninjas. It's an eye popping film.
Region 2...
I bought the "coffin can" collection of Elvira Movie Macabre shows a while back and only now got around to watching an episode... Eegah. But this doesn't appear to be the show I remember. It looks like some sort of later remake. The show I watched on KHJ 9 in Los Angeles had her on a red velvet...
I've been watching the new DVD set of Spike Milligan's Q... https://www.amazon.co.uk/1-3-Q5-Q6-Q7-DVD/dp/B01LYSRT1V/
I've heard this series mentioned before, but I had no idea how important it was. It's basically Monty Python's Flying Circus six months before Monty Python even started. I...
Two new classic Uni Horrors being released in France...

Murders in the Rue Morgue (1933) Lugosi: https://www.amazon.fr/Double-assassi...dp/B01M7YFXUW/
These gave me an excuse to pick up Abbott & Costello Meet The Mummy too...
I was browsing Amazon UK and came across this yesterday...
https://www.amazon.co.uk/d/DVD-Blu-ray/Two-Ronnies-Collection-Ronnie-Barker/B008RA56WM/
It's a 27 DVD set with 12 series of shows running a total of 4,212 minutes for only £28.99. Shipping to the US was only £3.50. This is probably...
I've been a sucker for horror thrillers with question titles since I was a kid... Whatever Happened To Baby Jane? Whatever Happened to Aunt Alice? but I had never seen Whoever Slew Auntie Roo? I bought the Kino blu-ray blind, but I'm really glad I did. It is a lot of fun. It's Hansel and Gretel...
I would recommend finding out what is in the current Oppo firmware update before you install it. It may be disabling a pretty major undocumented feature that was discovered a couple of weeks ago. Oppo hasn't said what is in the update. I'd suggest you wait until they do.
Arrow just announced a limited edition set on Hershel Gordon Lewis.

Last night I screened Circus of Fear (haven't had a chance to watch Five Golden Dragons yet). Wow! What a fantastic transfer! The liner notes say that this film was distributed in the US in B&W with over 20 minutes cut. You would never know it from the beautiful color and perfect print quality...
DVD Beaver just posted a review of the French Werewolf Of London blu-ray that I reviewed here last month. Interestingly enough, they chose a grab that is just a couple of frames away from one I made. Lots of people complain that Gary Tooze's images don't reflect the way the films actually look...
Received the deluxe blu-ray box from Amazon today and breathed a sigh of relief. The sound definitely is in 5.1 surround. (That hadn't been announced previously, and it would have been a deal breaker for me if it wasn't.) The video is just upscaled standard definition due to the limitations of...
I screened this last night... WHAT A FANTASTIC FILM! The acting is incredible, particularly Emil Jannings. His performance showed layer after layer of nuance, and the ending completely blew my socks off. Von Sternberg's direction was fantastic too. Every shot was staged and composed beautifully...
Last night I screened the fantasy/horror film Tale of Tales, and it was fantastic. I had ordered the Italian region B blu-ray on the recommendation of a friend, and I'm very glad I did. It's three fairy tales interwoven into a gripping and sometimes horrifying narrative... But it isn't Disney...
A lot of people complain that they have very fast internet connections, but their Netflix stream always stutters and grinds to a halt. Netflix just introduced a way to test the speed of your connection to Netflix's servers. It's super easy. Just compare the number you get to your usual download...
I screened Shout Factory's blu-ray of this last night. I had never seen the film before. I liked it... It fits in that 70s genre of bee-yotch queen horror movies that included Who Slew Auntie Roo? and Whatever Happened to Aunt Helen? The casting is very strange, with both Patty Duke and Richard...
