    Design My Setup (Pictures Inside)

No bass from Atoms probably means you have issues with the room....they have quite a bit of bass for a speaker of their size. Keep messing with positioning, you'll find it eventually.

The Outlaw subs are very good from what I've read. They were designed by Mr. Hsu of HSU Research which are supposed to be some of the best "budget" subs you can buy. Receiver looks very nice and should be a significant improvement on the Sony. Wall mounting the Atoms really isn't the best...

Titan V5s were $400-$450 new if I remember correctly....Wouldn't have any idea what they'd go for used and I haven't even heard of the other ones. The Titans are pretty bass heavy....Not boomy but close. When I did my audition I walked away liking the Titans more but when I thought about it...

    My Subwoofer "walks" a bit

You could try putting a throw rug under it with carpet spikes spikes...You may even notice a difference in quality of the bass this way. The rug would absorb some of the immediate bass rather than reflecting it like the concrete does.

    which speakers can i use?

Interesting read, thanks for the link. Guess I've been under the wrong impression about clipping. From what I gather from that, the point that a speaker is being damaged is going to be audible, but it has more to do with the dynamic headroom of the amplifier pushing the speaker to hard rather...

    which speakers can i use?

Klipsch with Onkyo is a really good combination if you like your ears to bleed. Onkyos tend to be on the brighter side (lots of treble), so to balance it out a warmer (more midrange-bass oriented) speaker will work well. Klipsch speakers are very bright as well due to the horns, so that's going...

    Small speakers

You might want to take a look at their clearance page, they have a better set for cheaper than the full home theater with the cubes. The speakers are a bit bigger, but they use better drivers in them. Conversely, you do get a smaller sub (Basscube 8 as opposed to the Basscube 10). If your friend...

Check out Monoprice.com PartsExpress.com and BlueJeansCable.com for cables. They have some very good prices on in-wall wire. Congrats on pulling the trigger on the Atoms. I heard the V.5 in an audition and like I said, it's a very impressive speaker for its size. I would suggest that when...

    Design My Setup (Pictures Inside)

Also look at Paradigm Atoms (you'll have to find a dealer, they aren't available online). They're about $300 a pair. Very nice, musical compact bookshelf that has some surprisingly punchy bass for their size. For a sub I'd agree with the Parts Express model. I believe the matching center for...

    Speaker Placement Suggestions

Perhaps one rear on the corner or the end of the yellow wall on the upper right side of the diagram, and one on the corner of the entrance way on the bottom right (assuming your seating is along the wall). I'd wall mount them up along the ceiling line and aim them away from the seating for a...

    Adding a second sub

Anything with identical or near identical dimensions. A rectangle room that you can walk into and instantly tell that it's a rectangle (no 13x11 type things) would be much better. As for wanting to know if it's worth rearranging your room, that is really up to you. If you feel that what you have...

    Speaker Placement Suggestions

Basically your manual should tell you placement then. Center on top of the TV, left and right to the left and right of the TV obviously, and the surrounds in the rear corners behind you. I'd still do the sub crawling thing as you'll get the best output that way.

    Speaker Placement Suggestions

No one can really tell you the best placement just by looking at a floor plan. You need to figure out the room acoustics and such for the best placement, and decide which compromises you're willing to make in regards to where they should be placed and where they can be placed. You didn't say...

Kenwood KR-V9080 Can I use it?

I'd hold off on using the EQ unless you feel you really need it. The receiver should work with an HDTV, but it is definetely obsolete. Obviously you won't be able to take advantage of any video switching the receiver has, and if the receiver isn't digital (I can't seem to find this info) you...

    Adding a second sub

Indeed, using the traps should help fix part of the problem. You could even try something like hanging a thick blanket (like a comforter) on the back wall temporarily to see if that gets you any kinds of results. Edit: this thread may be of some interest to you in figuring out how to do this.

    Adding a second sub

Not necessarily - you're dealing with the room's peaks and nulls, not a lack of output from the sub. As I said in my last two posts, you might get a bit more output from adding the second sub, but it won't be in the right way. You'll be dealing with a whole new set of peaks and nulls. Some...

An open letter sent to DirecTV concerning deceptive practices

I'm not sure where you've read these, as I have never seen anything bad posted about the SD picture quality with Verizon. I have had the service for well over a year now, and the picture quality far surpasses Cox Digital cable (?-2003ish) and Dish Network (2003ish-late 2007). I'd say it's about...

    Adding a second sub

Indeed, the square room is going most likely the root of the problem. I'm not sure if the second sub is going to help in that case. As I said in my post, it's going to get you bass, but in the wrong way. It is most likely going to be boomy and hard to control when you do get the volume you...
  24. boulderdashcci

    New here, first post.

It will work fine. Companies generally rate the output at 8ohm because that is what most speakers nominally run at, but most are able to handle a 6ohm load, it just may have to work a bit harder. If you notice it going into protect mode at normal volumes then you should be concerned, but it...

connecting two receivers via sub pre-out?

I wouldn't do this. The sub preout should only be used for subs as the manual says. The crossover should be used for telling the receiver when to stop feeding the mains and when to start feeding the sub. I'm not completely sure why you'd want to be doing what you're asking about, as you really...

Help me decide on my subwoofer?

I've read some good things about the Dayton, but haven't heard one myself. I have heard a few Polk subs and didn't care for them, though at $150 I'm not sure what other options you have. If you're willing to up the budget, I've read some very good things about these and I'd be willing to bet it...

should I add on to my bose speakers or get all new??

In addition to what Clinton said, Bose generally has high resale value on Craigslist/Ebay so you're likely to get quite a bit of your investment back. However, if you like the sound of what you have, then why get rid of it?

    Adding a second sub

There won't be anything cut in half other than line impedance, but that will not mean anything because line level is so high. You will not need to adjust the bass trim (other than for just that, trim) and you'll get far more bass out of the two subs than one. However, as said, if your sub(s)...

    7.1 speaker recommendations

In a 7.1 setup the 'rears' should be to the sides, directly above or somewhat behind the listener (however dipoles are more lenient with placement, I have mine above and somewhat forward of my listening position since they direct sound along the wall), and the 'surround back' should be on the...

    Rear Speakers for cheap

No, you don't. Your "150 watts" isn't really going to be 150 watts other than for extreme peaks, and even then I'm not sure it would push that much. Sound is very dynamic and never constant. For the most part you're never going to push more than 25watts into your speakers at normal-high volume...
